Hi all.

was riding along yesterday and i seen a sports bike (think it was an R6) which had a helmet secured to the right side rear of it whilst moving. It looked secure at maybe 40-50mph and looked convenient. Is it specific to that bike or can you buy them to fit to any bike.

The NSR had a helmet holder but i would ride with a helmet attached to it and the CB's is seized anyway!

If it is specific how else can i securely carry a helmet? i normally have a bag on my back with other things in it so that not really practical.

Thanks

He properly used the helmet lock on his bike and just let it "hang"

Still, seems a bit dangerous to do.

Have you considered getting a top box ?

Get a cargo net and do this;

Works well and the net will fold up into your pocket or you can shove it under your seat.

Oh also as a point hanging it from the helmet lock on some bikes is a bad idea, my nsr for an example, while wheeling the bike with the helmet in the lock I noticed the helmet was touching the rear tyre. Bad idea at speed I think you'll agree Wink

Depends on the helmet lock on the bike, the XTZ660 and F650 have crap helmet locks. XTZ being the worst. My old Suzuki is the best, holds the helmet tight to the fairings, so it barely moved.

Do be aware that it is sticking further out than the rest of the bike/you. Not a problem if you're used to panniers.

Or there's the cargo net option, as dodgy as it may look, it's usually very well secured. Providing you do it right!

Then top box/panniers.

Or, worst case, put it on your arm. Through the neck, out the face. I wedge it up just past my elbow. Can be uncomfortable for longer journeys, and can be restrictive!

Also runs the risk of breaking your arm if you land on it. I have used this method before when running over to a mates house.

this one looked pretty secure and held tight to the panel. the bottom of the helmet was like tight to the panel and the visor was facing down.

I couldnt put a cargo net on the CB unless it was really long due to the position of the handles and i guess i would have to drill through the back panel to put a top box on.

If you're going for a Givi rack, buy secondhand. Stupid expensive for brand new. We've got a couple of Givi plates, and just drilled a couple holes in easily replacable parts to bolt the rack onto the XTZ and BMW. Just make sure it's bolted on tight- Last thing you want is your boxers causing a fatal crash on the motorway :p
