Jeremy Harris, 43, turned right across the path of Michael Frost’s Kawasaki ZX-7R, later claiming that he had not seen the bike. The incident happened on the B4058 Iron Acton bypass at Iron Acton on April 23. Frost suffered severe injuries and died later at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol.

Bristol deputy coroner Brian Whitehouse recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Harris, who admitted to having two bald front tyres on his Vauxhall Vectra at the time of the accident, was working for South Gloucestershire Council. His role was to investigate road accidents and make remedial recommendations.

Harris received six penalty points for driving without due care and attention from North Avon magistrates. He was also fined £170, with a further £150 for the tyre offences.


6 measly points and £300. What a farce.

Causing the death of a person should hold a far far greater penalty than only 6 points a £300+

Murderers get years in prison, obviously it was not intentional but still, £300 for killing someone...

OK Mr Jeremy Harris,
That makes me so angry Evil or Very Mad

Accidental death! Thats cobblers if ever I heard it!

It stinks. I can't believe how the law in this country is so ridiculously anti bike.

maybe we should write him a letter saying that we feel as a road safety campaigner he ought to now set his sights on educating car drivers how to drive properly, and that a moments lapse of concentration can result in the death of a fellow human being.
A Fellow biker.

Maybe MCN would forward it to him.

I thought the law was 3 points per bald tyre?
This is a disgrace, if it was anyone else in the car except a police officer or movie star they would have been charged with death by dangerous driving, or whatever else.....

Who actualy gets those petition things started (the ones posted on here a few times about diesel and visor tins etc)?

Do any of those things actualy get any recognition? Perhaps someone could get one started, regarding the (re)education of drivers and there observational skills towards bikers, and post them in a few bike forums.

Hi

If it was an accident then I suspect the fine / points are probably the least of his worries. The punishment is probably not too far out, but does make it obvious how rediculous the penalties for speeding are.

However I would say that he should probably be sacked or moved to another job.
