Top Box for 2005 Fazer

I have a 2005 Yamaha Fazer and I'm thinking about getting a top box. What sort of size one should I be thinking about. I'm looking at one of the big Givi ones (I think it's the E52) or maybe a Kappa one. I just want it big enough for to be able to put my lid and preferably jacket and trousers in when I'm in town. Would this make the bike less manoeuvrable or much wider (as I do a lot of filtering in the city centre) or anything. I'm not planning on putting much in when I'm actually riding, probably just locks and chains. Anybody any advice. One last question, are the racks easy to fit and which one do I go for, different firms seem to do different ones at different prices.
Any help is appreciated. I've not been riding that long and don't fully understand these things yet.

The Givi range is superb, but quite expensive. They have monokey and monolock options; monokey are the better of the two (monolock are mainly for 'peds).
Their boxes use a very simply system to mount to the rack which is very secure.

I have a V46 topbox which is good for 2 full face helmets, or a helmet + jacket etc. The box hardly makes any difference to the handling of the bike (the most I've had in it is about 8kg), and doesn't make the bike wider for filtering. Pillions tend to prefer having the box on because they have something to lean back on.

Mounting brackets come for just about any kind of bike and are pretty easy to fit. I went for a full wingrack (for a topbox + panniers) which was very simple to fit. It took me about 1/2 hour without any swearing! Remember that you may have to buy a Givi rack, which will hold the topbox, and then you'll need a fitting kit which is specific to your bike.

If your bike already has some sort of cargo plate, you just drill through the supporting metal work and bolt a givi plate directly onto the existing plate. Done this on both the F650 and XTZ.

I find with a loaded topbox that at high speed I can sometimes get a slight weave coming through the bike. It can be an uncomfortable feeling to say the least - but it's only been experienced at about 100 on my dad's old XJR1300, and possibly 110-120 on my GSXF750. and you probably shouldn't be doing those speeds with a loaded topbox anyway...

There can be a difference to filtering, beware the box may not be any wider than the bike, but its width sits higher up. I've gone through a gap with ease, only to hear a smash as I tore a lorries wing mirror off!
Sounds obvious, but loaded it'll also raise the centre of gravity, so be aware doing slow control.

The bike doesn't have any sort of rack on it at the moment. It's all as standard apart from the alarm which I don't think counts. I take it I'll need some sort of frame work then to hold the box (as far as I know I'm not going to need panniers) and then a plate to fit it to. Is this correct?

As I say sorry for what are obvious questions but I'd really like to get my head round all the costs before deciding for definite.

V46 is ample for a Fazer. I have one on mine.

The 52 on is huge and it's a bit overkill, you'd be as well off buying a car for the bootspace!

As above basicly, it's a givi wingrack you're after. You're better off buying it secondhand, you'll save a lot of money.

and to better answer your question, yes, it's basicly frame work that you bolt to your bike. Brand new they come with everything you need to attach it, so ensure off ebay or wherever that it comes with all fitments!
Bought the framework for my Suzuki, and it was missing a couple clips n stuff, took weeks of pestering Givi Customer Services till one woman we'd spoken to a couple times gave up and sent us the parts personally

Thanks for the advice. I made the mistake of talking to a friend yesterday just before I ordered my stuff and he was saying that instead of buying a top rack I would be better buying a full wingrack that would accomodate panniers if I decided to add them at a later date. What do you guys think. If so what is it I need for a 2005 Fazer 600 and where's the best place to buy them from. Sorry for all the questions but I'm confused. It doesn't take much

I just got myself an E26 I think. It's a monolock and I'm not that impressed by the quality, but then it was £35 including a universal bracket, so wasn't expecting that much.
