Just spent a weekend in the Lakes with my girl and a couple of mates in their caravan...

Me and the other lad took our bikes (He has an R6) and I can't believe how stunning the roads are there!

Didn't get much of a chance to get off of the bike unfortunately, saw some absolutely breathtaking stuff I'd of loved to get a picture of

Nearly crashed on the A595, coming up to a crest I thought was going straight on I accelerated only to find out it turned, slammed brakes on and had a nice back end slide :s

Definately have to go back there again, it's bloody fantastic and I learnt a lot about what I need to improve with my riding (Just about everything! Smile )

Glad you liked it - know where you mean on that road, it's well known for being a killer.

Shame there are no decent meets round that way :sigh:

Come back soon Very Happy

Really? At the bottom of the hill it goes round into a MASSIVE double white lined left hander - that bit?

If I hadn't of shit myself I'd of been fine haha.

Did about 300 miles this weekend haha, went over Newby bridge and headed towards Lancaster, and then jumped on the M6 back to Liverpool.

It's a very, very lovely place. I'm thinking of going up there for the weekend when I pass my DAS and get a new bike; so cheers for re-enforcing my plan, Toby Thumbs Up

Do it, it's beautiful, but be careful, some of the parts I went through aren't for the faint hearted and it can be miles before you get to any kind of place to have a rest, so plan stops accordingly.

It is wise to avoid the place at bank holidays - especially the narrow roads can be frustrating and even hazardous with overheated drivers doing silly things.

As sagalout said, you should have come on the Northern meet. We went all over the lakes. I did 250miles in a day and some had to do even more with getting home.

Aye. I tend to avoid going down into the lakes because there are too many cars on the road. The bit on the 595, just South of Muncaster castle?

I consider the A595 an apalling and crowded slog to ride along and wouldn't waste my time with it when I can be North of Glasgow in 90 minutes. Get up into the Highlands Thumbs Up .

I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles.

My brother has brought up the idea of touring in the highlands for a couple of weeks next year; so that should be interesting.

In all honesty, I think if I went to the lakes, I'd spend most of my time walking and taking in the sights. It's a truly beautiful place.

Not sure, too preoccupied with gripping the bars in terror and wondering how much a radiator costs Wink

There wasn't that much traffic but when there was some I was stuck behind it for ages because I'm not too hot on overtakes

The ride to the Caravan site from the M6 Penrith exit was interesting, there's like a weird 3 lane road (2 lanes oncoming, 1 lane ourside) with the most fucking pointless double white lines ever...

Obviously I followed the highway code and obeyed the white lines at all cost Wink but still.

On the last run I only got through the dales to devils bridge, but even that area is stunning, I'm considering popping up to the lakes again, probably just at my own pace, just to take in that scenery because that's what I did last time, just went through the country roads and took it all in, it's truly breath-taking. Best thing is to get off, stretch your legs and make use of a camera at a few stops, well worth the trip anytime. Thumbs Up
