Just noticed on one of the protective gear threads, that G mentioned getting a race suit altered to fit. I recently purchased a 2 piece suit from a fellow BCF'er and it as a good fit, but not as good as it could be. I would be interested in getting it altered. I presume most clothing alterations shops would not be able to work on the leather and finish it to the degree that would be nessasary for a race leathers, so where would I get this work done? Are there specialist companies in England which could alter it given my measurments, or would it be nessesary to have them fit in person?

Yes it is possible but depending on how much needs altering, it can get quite expensive. I think that you would need to take them in person too so that they could see exactly what needs altering where and by how much. Google it and you should find some places that can cater for bike leathers.

It costs £35 PER alteration in Wigan £25 in Bolton , bolton doesn't do as good a job though , wigan can take forever,

I don't recommend posting them either I recommend you go and get measured there and then, so no mistakes are made,

How far away are they from a good fit? Don't forget that a lot of off the shelf leathers don't fit the people who buy them 100%, but close is good enough for most people. Any slight deviation is put up with by the wearer. I would only consider getting them altered if they are terribly uncomfortable or really bad fitment wise.

the trousers are a good fit, and won't need anything done to them, but the jacket is too large in the chest. The waist of the jacket is fine too, but the chest is far too big, and it would take perhaps 3-4 thick jumpers to fit, but as the waist is ok, the jumpers wouldn't fit there lol. I will have a look in the yellow pages, as google is of no help. Thanks for the posts guys. Very Happy

Google is no good? There aren't loads of places about that will alter them you know.

Try this google link: https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=motorcycle+leather+alterations&btnG=Search&meta=cr%3DcountryUK%7CcountryGB

What about finding some racers in your area and seeing if they know of anyone.

Might be worth dropping ajhutch on here a pm as I'm sure he'll have had to have his leathers repaired at some point Smile.

Ive got exactly the same problem with my leathers. They are a perfect fit all over apart from the chest and upper arms.

Seriously considering starting the gym to try and pump up a bit so they fit better. Laughing
