what id do is cut just a bit further back
and cut out this section
https://img409.imageshack.us/img409/2857/smaller3daveye1.jpg
you could probably cut a bit further
then id re weld it onto the frame if your wanting to keep the same back end that is, it looks like you do in your P'shopped image ____________________ Current - Fazer 600

Those boxes are just the catches for the seat so I'd imagine that'd be no great loss as I'd probably need to bolt the seat down anyway.
I'd prefer to keep the same back end if possible really.
Will I need to brace the frame after I've cut it to give it a bit more strength when it's all put back together? ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

May I strongly suggest you have a look at some of the following
https://www.thefont.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bikes/index.htm
https://www.chopperbuilder.co.uk/portal.php
https://www.britchopper.co.uk/forum/
as you might gather they lean towards the chop style, but they are open minded , its more "custom" than just "chop". The people on it are also generous with advice and guidance, including some professional frame builders. Pretty much all the questions you have asked will be answered on at least one of them.
From the pics however it looks like all you need is a loop of tube to round out the end, slugged into the seat rails at the point you cut them off. ____________________ Trust me, I`m an engineer

If you mod the frame at all, you legally need to have an SVA test done on the bike and a new registration issued.
Best bet is to keep quiet about it and insist the mods were done ages ago (ie, before the SVA regs came in). ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

How much of a big deal is it then?
I've hacked a load of shit off the back end of my 550/4, and when I get back from camping in Scotland I'm gonna finish it off and hardtail the bugger, in a sort of bobber style.
Would it be prudent to take the bike to a different MOT tester than I went to last year (baring in mind it's quite a distinctive bike, he is likely to remember having tested it before looking quite different)? If I did take it to him and he kicked up a fuss, would I just have to go elsewhere or could he blow the whistle on me and get me into trouble?
I didn't realise all frame modifications needed to be inspected. In the case of KLR600, he'd only be modifying the "subframe" ____________________ Hard livin', hard luck. |
