... Biking is so much fun!!!!!!!

I was loving 2 wheels, 30mph in the open air, feels so fast hehe Very Happy

I'm a bit bothered however, cos the instructor said I was a "very weak CBT pass", however I suppose I need a hell of a lot more practice. I will definitely cack myself when I get a bike! I stalled so many times on the road and I stalled at a junction and held up traffic lol

All jokes aside tho, I really do need to build my confidence, and i am so glad I didnt go for DAS, instead I can get a CG and potter around my back roads to build confidence.

The up side is, i rode a CG125 all day, and i love it. The instructor advised that i get a dirtbike cos i am so tall (6ft 4), however, I am 100% happy to get a CG.

I just hope i dont piss too many people off on the roads. Oh well, I'm not a speed freak, so practice will get me to keep up with the rest!

you still got your certificate, if your instructor thought you would be a danger to yourself or other road users, he would have had you go back for a second day of training.

my partner goes for his cbt on friday and he has never been on a bike with clutch and gears before. he's dreading it. Sad

I did a CBT on an automatic scooter at 16.

Had a friend teach me gears for a couple of hours in a car park on a 250 just before my 17th.

Next day I rode a geared 125 home from London to Coventry. Now that was interesting...definately chucked myself in the deep end that time.

i'll be doing that in a few weeks, the clutch control isn't that hard, but getting in the right gear for round abouts etc is a right bitch Rolling Eyes Mr. Green

The clutch control comes with time you just need practice. Personally I can't stand the CG, when I was on my test I couldn't tell if it had stalled or not at lights because it was so quiet. I reckon a dirt bike would be more fun than the cg (to be honest I think most things are Rolling Eyes )

But each to there own congratz mate have fun on 2 wheels.

a weak pass is still a lot better than having to redo it which i have to do Sad, gears, speed, signalling, manourvers were all perfect, he just says i need to perfect and trust my observations as i sometimes look to each side while im turning which could throw me off balence apparently.

personally i think the examiner was just grumpy that day Very Happy.

Not wanting to hijack this thread but after i pass the cbtis it wise to go straight into doing a restricted course?, i wont be able to practice on a geared bike at all as i'd be using an automatic scooter for work and i dont want to pick up any bad habits with it.

I would advise getting a geared bike and practicing for a while, you won't be confident enough on a geared bike.

Well done, i did my CBT yesterday too, and bloody hard work it was too. I don't think I've ever had to learn so much so quickly in one go. Those first stages of learning to drive - in a dual control car, over a few lessons spread out over a couple of weeks - aren't even close.

Having never ridden prior to yesterday, I'll be getting a CG for now and doing DAS in the spring once all the basics are coming more naturally, rather than as a result of fairly hard concentration.

Congrats on the pass Thumbs Up

and yes, it is the best feeling ever, like u say slow speeds feel fast. Good fun. Smile

With clutch and stuff remember that it is going to be a wet clutch, so unlike a car you cant burn it out, give it max revs and feather the clutch, you will just piss the neighbours off...

Best too many than too few, I was taught to control the speed when setting off with the clutch, not the accelerator, works for me Thumbs Up

Round the car park he reved the bike to 9k and rode around at walking speed to show the amount of control you can have with just the clutch. You are taught not to in a car, but on bikes you can ride the clutch. Is it just the Ducati that have dry clutches?

Stick to quiet roads, dont delay too much before getting a bike, and dont let it put you off. Give it a couple of hours with no instructor breathing down your neck and you will be fine Smile

hey guys

thanks for your congrats, and all ur positive support!

Yes I want to get a bike as soon as and start practicing! I still feel nervous and a little low on confidence cos of what the instructor said, but u guys makin me feel better Very Happy!

I find turning left and right hard, cos i dont know how to slow down properly and control the back brake on the turn. I need to practice desperately.

I checked out a Hyosung Comet 125 but the guy wouldnt let me ride it lol Understandable but how is he supposed to sell it? I waited and tried to get him to ride it in front of me, but he thought that was prolly not gonna do me any good. Well i need to know if it moves dont i? lol Oh well, i suppose he was a nice old guy and very cautious, good to buy from i suppose.

Gonna see another Hyosung 2moro - from a copper lol Hope he dont nick me for speeding.

Let u know how i get on.

Test rides on bikes are always problems.

The only thing I can suggest is you take the asking price in cash along with you and ask him to hold it while you take a test ride.

You drop it then you bought it.

Comet 125 isnt a bad choice. I know a guy off of another forum who started on one. He has changed bikes a few times since then but has kept his Comet as a back up because it costs virtually nothing and was fun to ride.

hey kal, thanks for your tips!

i saw a comet today, and the chap let me test ride it! I loved it, and i put a deposit on it!

Wen i get the cash next week, i'm gonna ride all the way home for the first time, "unassisted". I cant wait! Its bright yellow too, i love it.

Will do pics, once officially purchased!

Whats with all the caps Shocked

Don't worry about your instructor saying it was a "weak" pass. The fact they passed you mens that you aer safe to ride, and thats all that really matter tbh.

Once you've had more experience riding on your own you will become more confident and learn how to get the best from your own bike.

Gratz on your pass! Smile

Congrats on the CBT... Thumbs Up

Personally I dont like the CG I find the gears too sensitive for my liking.

It took me ages to get used to riding a bike on the CBT so when the CBR arrives its off practising round the car park for a good few hours.

congrats on ur cbt!

i was under the impression you couldnt "fail" as its only an assesment?
its the instructors job to get you up to the required standard, so if you paid say £100 to go thru your cbt, you keep going till your up to the required standard, however long it takes!

when i done mine, on a yamaha sr i think, i got told 1/2 thru the road bit, that i would have to improve drastically or she "wouldnt sign me off"!
i made the mistake of practising on my own bike(which had one of those wierd uside down race type gear boxes, you know all down then all up)
i was told my observation, clutch control & safety aspects were all ok it was just my use of gears & i did stall it on a busy roundabout!

has anyone heard of someone being refused a CBT?

Yes I have.

One in Sheffield had her training school refuse to pass anybody in her class and said they'd charge them for another day.

We convinced her to go with another training school, who passed her without problems but I don't beleive she ever made a complaint about them to the DSA.

I did my CBT with a 16 year old who didn't get his certificate.

In all fairness he wasn't especially competent - he missed a turning three times, kept going too slow, had incorrect positioing on roundabouts and kept forgetting to cancel his indicators.

Still felt sorry for the guy though, he was quite visibly upset when the instructor told him he hadn't passed Sad

I brought a CG125 with absolutly no manuel experience whatsoever and had to ride it from the showroom to home which was 20miles. As you can imagine, I stalled it all the way and it took forever! Thats the deep end Laughing
