hi all,
just one (well two actually) last question about my aprilia rs125 which wont start,
ive just been told that my mate has "cut the bridge in my cdi" to lose the environmental dip, if he hasnt done it correctly, as it looks like he has hacked at it with a blunt knife! -would this affect my ignition?
ie if he has cut into it too much?

and whats the best way to check if im getting a spark?
tried holding spark plug against engine casing whilst pressing starter, but no spark?

any ideas?

Hi

Commonly done mod. Yes if you went mad you could wreck it, but not heard of anyone doing so.

All the best

Keith

didnt realise he had done it, as was done while i was at work!
but i removed the gaffer tape to discover a hole about 2 inches wide by about 1 inch deep in the silicone, i can see mashed circuit board - surely its been butchered?
if its not that what is making it not start, im stumped!
can i get the cdi tested somehow or should i just chance another one?
as i said earlier tried the plug against engine casing but cant see a spark?

Hi

Has it run since he attacked the CDI? Bit of a coincidence if not.

Basically you dig out in a particular place and break a "bridge" on the circuit board. Not mash it up. You only need a small hole digging to do this. About 1cm square.

All the best

nope dont think it has,
other day when leaving work it wouldnt start for ages, i think i had floodedit, & i had left fuel tap on.
started ok the rest of day, left it in garden for a few hours in evening, whilst i was doing a quick job, not realising my mate had done the cdi!
it was planned for him to do it as a favour, just didnt know when.
when i tried to start it late that nite when i got home -thats when the saga began!
new spark plug etc
checked obvious loose cables etc.
feeleer guage morn,
but as you say - bit of a coincidence!
GIT - he was trying to do me a favour as well!
