I would be guessing that wire is the reason you cant start the bike. When you turn the ignition on are you gettin lights and horn? When did the bike start "not starting"? Did you ride it home ok? The first thing you would want to do is solder that wire back, and then see how she goes from there. ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,

To be honest im not sure if thats where it is, the one on my CBR sits ontop of the engine, the one on my RX's sister bike (The RS) would have sat underneath, and if theres a whirring noise coming from it, its more than likely. To be honest it sounds like the teeth on the gear that engages the starter motor have been stripped (hense the whirring). Do as biker_king says, then come back and tell us (or show us) what you find.
Also what method are you using to bump it? ____________________ Will work for petrol

I have removed the alternator cover and found a big circular magnet attached to a big cog.
The thing at the bottom is indeed the starter motor, I can see it spining around. I cant see anyway it would ever engage this big cog though.
TO bump it, i'm running along, jumping on it and dropping into either 1st or 2nd and letting the clutch out. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

Surely your lights work as they'll run off the battery, which may be too dead to start the bike, and them wires look like the starter motor had the wires cut, hence it don't work. The forks look fine, if your referring to lack of a nut on the end of the bolt, I'd say the nut was built in the fork, leaving the long bolt to just go through and nip it up.
For an Italian one it looks neat, I knew another lad with one Til he blew his engine about a month ago..
What's wrong with the NS? ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

i'll be able to do more over the weekend. go some more pics to get up, but left my usb at work.
The NS has whole list of things wrong with it, they are listed in another thread. its a cat c write off. Sold it on ebay yesterday for £140.
As for the NSR It looks ok initially but I think its been dropped heavily or in a bit of an accident. It was orginally black, though the spray job is very good. The fairings are damaged and the frame has been painted black, gold is the orginal colour right?
my plan is to first get it started and running, then carry out basic servicing, then tidy the thing up and get it on the road by the end of the month. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

£140? Do I spy a seat convertor?
Yeah gold or silver, do a HPI and see what it says, an accident aint too bad as long as the repairs are up to scratch. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

Didn't think that needed saying Sure it's not an F? I'd see if alains knows about the forks for confirmation. Yes, the starter motor should be contacting it's coggy type bits. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. whats to confirm? the left hand fork is threaded and theres a pinch bolt on the right hand side, im sat here now looking at the haynes manual for that bike (sold the bike 2 weeks ago) and there is no nut on the fork.
and if your motor is spinning but not engaging then strip it clean it and replace the brushes then try it ____________________ visit Collective Knowledge |

i've taken the starter out, it spins quite happily on its own, but when it engages the gear it doesn't move at all.
I still can't bump start the thing. It really wants to go and almost gets there but then dies. I think its because I can't disengage the clutch at all. If i put the bike into gear and pull the clutch I can hardly push it. ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs

Check clutch lever adjustment, then cable is fine, then where it goes to the clutch basket.
Failing that, take the clutch casing off(undo all bolts and drain any fluids-but there shouldn't be any) then check it's sat right and not jammed/caught etc.
Also, check your choke lever/cable/the bit that goes in the carb is ok. Then report back. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

No worries. Changed the plug, couldn't get my plug spanner in so ended ujp taking all the fairing and tank off, then realised that, that did offer any access to it at all. Used an adjustable spanner in the end.
I've taken the starter motor out, currently sitting my kitchen work surface. It looks ok, but it just doesn't seem to have enough power to spin the flywheel. After a new one ASAP.
Rode the bike up and down my alley way. The front brake is aweful, though the back is nice. The guy told me had recently put new pads on the front too ____________________ Motorcycle headlight bulbs and HIDs
