Hi

Got me bike bike back after its seizure, no thats sorted i realised that there was hardly any oil in the tank. It it still runs now, will no damage have been done???
Also after the first seizure the rings were still free so i didnt bother haveing a new piston. Apparantly the piston is scuffed, will this affect power badly???
Also how many miles would you recomend running it in for??? Its only new rings.
Thanks
Dyl

My mate has an Aprilia RS50 and he recently got new rings, the Aprilia garage after fianally getting him the rings (3 bloody weeks for 2 circular pieces of wafer thin metal) told him 200 miles before they're run in, keeping the bike under 6,000 rpm for the first 100, then increased by 500 rpm every further 10 miles.......but he has done about 250 miles and still not gone over 9,000 rpm just to be on the same side, cos he is selling his bike and wants it to be in good nick for when he sells it, also it would be on his consience if some 16 year old lad just paid out all his savings for a bike that's gonna blow a piston cos it wasn't run in properly!

I think you're on about running a new piston in m8, he's only had new rings.

I think a steady 150 miles of varied engine load riding will be enough to run a modern nikasil plated barrel in. Should scrub your rings in as well. Its not miles that run it in. Use the bike in 6th at low revs to put it under load, make it pull you upto 6K then ease off. Keep changeing gear and revs as well. Thats what i usually do.
Whatever you do dont go on an A-road and cruise along at a constant speed.
