But the bike isn't Crying or Very sad

On my way down to Silverstone on Friday I had a pretty spectacular accident.

Everything was going well - riding really cautiously, it was pretty windy and the roads were wet and slippy. I was approaching the last island on the A45 before the M42, I was turning left at this island. While I started breaking I caught a patch of diesel I think.... Lost the front end and when it gripped again I was hurtling hopelessly towards the curb.

Hit the curb hard, flipped the bike and I went flying off into a road sign in which I've left a fantastic helmet shaped dent, at which point i blacked out...not surprisingly!)

According to the van following me and the guy I was riding with (who was ahead of me) I tumbled through tress and down a bank for another 50 or so yards and landed in a ditch.

When I came round I couldn't feel my arms, feet and my back and neck hurt. I was thrashing around trying to find my bike, and vaguely remeber being told to stay still - apparently I asked about my bike a few times then promptly told them I was going back to sleep. Got taken to hospital, strapped down to a back board, spent nearly all day in X-ray.

Eventually they had to conclued that I hadn't broken anything. THankfully, my helmet and the fact I was wearing a rcuksack saved my life ( my head was prevented from bending back and snapping my neck by my rucksack.)

I made it to Silverstone though!!! Scrounged a lift in a car down and watched the races...they were fantastic....And Chris Walker did two wheelies for me!!! Right where I was lying and there was only a small group of us there cheering him. Now I am at home, mourning the loss of my bike and all feelin in my right arm shovelling down horse tranquilisers.

Now i need your help....what should I do? Wait and see exactly how bad my bike is and do it up again......, or get an NC30? Oh, and I need a new helmet!

PS do you think the council will charge me for damaging the sign?

Sounds like a good 'un Anna. Remember my moto, if you're gonna do it, do it properly Wink
If i was you id just scrap or sell the NSR, chances are the yolks will be out of allignment along with some swinging arm and possible frame bendage. Your wheels may also be buckled. The mangled cosmetics are the least of your worrys.
Ive spent too many hours straightening bikes and on relfection just isn't worth it. Theres always somethig else to do.

Get something with a little Oommff, and maybe next time youll be able to demolish the sign Very Happy

Get well soon,
take it easy

Blimey, get better soon.
Get the bike back and take off all the fairing, then if the engine still runs and the front wheel is alighned then take it out for a slow and cautios ride, and if its ok do it up agin. (check front forks are OK).
If the front wheel isnt alighned then undo the pinch bolts on the forks and staighten them.
If all it is is that the fairing is smashed then repair it. You can get race fairings in one pre painted colour for £200.
I fell off my bike a couple of weeks ago and it was a really bad crash with it highsiding an all, but the only thing that needs repiaring now is one piece of the fairing. Careful work with black Humbrol paint makes the levers/bar ends look as new.
New bike gonna cost a lot more than a new fairing.
Get well soon!!! Sad Sad

Thanks guys! I intend to be back riding as quickly as possible, while I was unconcious I was having a lovely dream about riding...I also have recital in two weeks time!!! Guess I'll be dedicating it to Alpinestars and the paramedic crew!

Dad went and fetched the bike for me today, the damage appears to be mainly cosmetic, the fairing is smashed, the orignal plastics - side panels etc look ok. Wheelsaren't bucked (amazing considering the impact that I hit the curb with), but the light unit is smashed, and the clocks and all the framework around there is bent up....

I think my bike just wants to be a streetfighter! Not sure about the insurance on an NC, could be massive - only 19 you see and haven't taken my test yet Embarassed shame on me!

Bad luck Anna, hope that your bike can be straightened out ok. If it aint too bad and you can do the streetfighter thing with it, then how about getting a 180cc big bore kit to make it rapid. I dunno if you might wanna get rid of the bike anyway after your get off, even if its mendable, as some people do after a smash. At 19 the VFR would be so cool, but i was 23 b4 i could get insurance on my zx6r and that was a struggle, so maybe your best off waiting another year or 2.
Hope u are back on a bike soon!

Hi

Glad you are OK, but check over the bike very carefully. The NSR (and the Aprilia RS125) use cast alloy frames, and cast items tend to crack rather than bend. Make sure you are 100% certain the bike is going to be OK.

Hopefully see you out soon

All the best

Keith

Ouch ouch ouch sounds like you had a very lucky escape, damn chaffin oil Crying or Very sad

I destroyed the front of my nsr about 2 years ago, cost roughly £700 for all the top cowling plastics, screen, headlights, instrument frame, mirrors & indicators. If you're so inclined go for the nc30 and keep the nsr as a project bike, tart it up into a bit of a naked streetfighter then sell it on...

Anyways, hope you get well soon Razz
