Got a little problem with the cat Sad

As I’m riding along it's losing power for about a second then kicking back in again, at first I thought I had a sticky link in my chain or something but then I noticed the tacho drops off to nothing at the same time as it losing power and then comes back up when the power kicks in.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? I’m guessing plugs or carbs?

either of those i'd check

carbs were always giving me grief on my bike giving similar symptoms, but could quite easily be the plugs, do a plug chop...

then if the plugs are ok, maybe strip and clean the carbs

when was the last service?

If the tacho is dropping off then I would suspect that it could be an electrical problem.

Does it happen after the bike's got wet recently or any other obvious signs?

No doesnt seem weather related at all. Gave it a wash a week ago and it's only started the last 2-3 days.

did any water get in your fuel tank or engine?!?!

check your plugs if they are good check the ignition to see if spark is consistent, then check your carbs clean if necessary.

Good Luck

I didn't realise that the 'Cat had that much power to lose. Razz

Anyhoo, could it be fuel tap/filter/hose related? Is there a certain rev range in which these problems occur?

It doesn't Tin thats why he's noticing it. Laughing

This may sound like a really daft question but have you touched anything recently on the bike that you wouldn't normally?

Hi

The tacho dropping right down tends to suggest that it isn't sparking. Suggests either power to the cdi unit, the triggers from the cdi unit or a friend cdi unit.

All the best

Keith

Also check you don't have a loose or corroded battery terminal.
