Alright lads,

Is it bad for the engine to redline it, what kinda damage would u do. I have the odd drag race with my friends nsr's and I redlined it all the way to 12.5 rpm last night without realilising it. I never redlined it that much before. How about u guys do you redline when racing and how far into the redline.

So long as you dont do that in every gear all the time and you use decent 2 stroke and keep it serviced etc you should be ok.

I get close to the redline in most gears, I rarely go into tho as the power starts to drop off just before.

i agree ,your go faster if you dont go all the way to the red line as the nsr's power peaks at 10,500 rpm thats 500 befor the redline

i think its 10.5 where its at its optimum point ive been told that the reason that the power drops is because the crankshaft is distorting due to excessive revs the only gear i would redline is 6th gear if you want to accelerate quick take it to 10.5 youl go quicker honestly Rolling Eyes

I live in the redline, literally. Because of the tuning characteristics of my bike it produces peak power at 11.5k. Last barrel and piston lasted 3800 miles of living at the limit, thats using Ipone fully synthetic racing oil, which seems to be good stuff.

Little 2 squeekers can take the hammer. In my opinion with squeekers if your not above 7k you might as well walk.

Give em some pasty'. If you're face doesn't look like this when visors open you're not going fast enough Shocked

I change every 5000 miles, i dont think you need to do it that often but usually when i arrive home i can smell my clutch burning, that cant be good for oil. Another problem is my oil ends up with tiny metal particles in it from gearbox, thats another side effect of thrashing it.

I bought a Honda XL a few months ago (a four stroke by the way), attempted to redline it but only made it to about 7000 when the piston tangled with the valves or something and.... well you know the story from there on. Embarassed
