came of my bike 2day.
me and my mate were riding togther i slowed down and he went straight into the bak of me. i rode to a garage and they reckon its ruffly 1500 pounds damage to my bike. my bike only cos 2000 wen i bought it new about 10 months ago. my m8s given me insurance details and said if its any cheaper jus for the majour parts i need could he just pay with cash.
i havent got any money at the minute. hes bikes basically fine out of it. need my bike looking nice soon because i want to part ex it for a bigger bike. what do you think i should do?
if i do go thru the insurance will i be able to get a new helmet with the claim because it could be buggered.
should i be able to get a courtesy bike while its getting repaiered?

Sorry to hear about your off.

Take the fact that he is your friend out of the equation. He hit you, he has insurance, so claim in full from his insurance for every bit of damage caused to your bike.

If he only pays cash for the 'major parts' then you will still be left with a bike in worse condition than it was before the accident.

If it's a faired bike, then the 'major parts' will no doubt include replacement fairings, which don't come cheap, so even if he was only to pay for replacement of the 'major parts' he'd have to fork out a large sum of money to have them repaired professionally (to which you are entitled). What he loses on the claim you're making against his insurance will be less, I'm guessing.

You will be able to claim for damaged gear. It will be much easier for you if he admits liability. You should also speak to your insurance company now if you haven't already. They will also tell you if you are entitled to a courtesy bike.

First thing is to go to hospital. By the state of your spelling you may have bleeding within your cerebral cortex.

Did your helmet impact anything? If it did it is fucked and should be replaced, if it didn't it is fine.

With what your bike is worth chances are the damage will write it off

What should you do? Tricky I know he is a mate but he has just killed your bike through lack of attention. One way or another he should be making sure that you get back on the road.

If he can pony up a grand and a half then I'd suggest taking that money, selling your bike to a professional breaker and putting all of that towards the bike you were planning to get.

So are you both inexperienced lads on peds? Not to be rude, but that's what it sounds like considering he hit the back of you, and your bikes only cost £2000 brand new.

Either way, don't be a pillock and go through the insurance, it will be a lot less hassle.

what i meant there, for any misconception is "Don't be a pillock, go through the insurance" looking back on it, it reads either way depending on your opinion of what he should do.

Go through the insurance and get it done properly. He won't be you mate for much longer.... Then again with mates like this you really want to make sure he pays to learn the lesson.
Be aware that if you do get a courtesy bike that if you damage it you could end up with a very big bill.... Just like someone else did... Excess on anything like that is very high, usually in the area of £500 ish.

And a quick pointer.. On forums you no longer have to use text mode.... Twisted Evil Your fingers will not wearout any faster typing the whole word....

Depends how much of a mate he is I suppose - do you want to help him out by offering the chance to not go through insurance if that's what he wants?

This might also get you back on the road a hell of a lot quicker

What is the damage? It's likely the garage is overcharging, especially because it's likely to be an insurance job.

Its in your best interests to go the insurance route. If he doesnt like it, that makes him a dick Neutral

Of course you are entitled to a courtesy bike. Well, you are entitled to alternative transport at his expense. If you do decide to go down the insurance route (and I think you don't really have much choice), I'd suggest using an accident company - they will sort the hire bike out for you and bill the other guy's insurance company directly. They'll also deal with the repairs and recovery of any other unisured losses (helmet, clothing, recovery truck, and your excess if your insurance company has already gotten involved). I've used HelpHire and Accident Exchange, both of which were great.

If you've been quoted £1500 and your bike cost you £2000 ten months ago, buy the time it gets to the insurance company I really do think it will end up written off. Better start looking for a new bike.

thanks for all the help. i went back to the garage today. yesterday i was told at least 1000 for all the parts plus labour and there could be more problems. today i spoke to my mate who works in the garage and he got all the prices properly and not just an estimate. ends up it should be a total of about 600 quid qith all the damage repaired.
