I thought bloodly hipacrits!! What you guys think? they should do track days! ____________________ Carbon closet tart! https://www.bikepics.com/members/r6stuk/02r6/

I was thinking the same as you Stu, I thought police were not allowed to break the law ie. speed unless they were on call
Maybe they think they can and in reality there has been the no change in the law to allow them to do this. Thus meaning all traffic cops are guilty of speeding and their instructors guilty of incitement to speed. But I think I may be dreaming there |

If you were doing it as part of a training course exactly the same as the police were doing there (that only police can do), yeah, they'd let you off.
If a police man was caught speeding and had no reason for speeding (wasn't chasing anyone), he'd get a bollocking, same as you would.

Do any one watch the "Kenyon Confronts" program that was on a little bit before? I'd probably get chucked in jail for multiple counts of attempted murder if I was forced to live with such scum. ____________________ TiN

I found it funny how one of the jam sandwich drivers said you needed zen-like concentration, nerves of steel and the reflexes of a cat to drive at 100mph on a deserted motorway. Don't sell yourself short there mate
Though not nearly as bad as that Sheriff John B. Gunell off America's Worst Police Chases, who I swear must come in his pants every time somebody breaks the weedy highway speed limit over there. "OH MY GOD, he's doing 70 miles per hour, he might as well run in to church with a Kalashnikov and blow away some nuns!".
I want to microwave that bloke's testicles.

Police Officers are exempt from the speed limits when being trained, and generally it is only the National speed limits that are ignored, 30's, 40's and 50's are complied with.
When qualified, they are subject to the speed limits just the same as anyone else except where the complying with a speed limit would be predjudicial to the incident they were attending in other words on a shout or other justified reason like a pursuit.
The Police advanced course is probably the most intense course I have ever done and over the 4 weeks of my first course I lost over 3 stone in weight just through concentration and sweat.
On the Bike course I lost another 3 stone for the same reasons, and that is even tougher as you are riding all day whereas on the car course you do 1 hour at a time with a morning and afternoon session.
At the end of the day, Police drivers, particularly advanced students are trained in plain vehicles because if they can do it safely without all the safety equipment, then come the day they go operational in a marked car it becomes easier, but the training is still relevant simply because a criminal is not goingto stick to the legal speed limit when trying to escape, and the Police drivers have to be capable of staying with the bandit in safety.
Every two years, all Traffic officers have to do a two week refresher which is a chance to hone the skills and keep the eye in, and hopefully retain their class 1 qualification.
For those with Bike and Car qualifications then it was two refresher courses a year plus the pursuit course which my force introduced whilst I was still serving going back 10 years ago.
So don't knock it until you see or know what is involved, and remember that the standard in this country is higher than anywhere else in the world which is why so many overseas forces send their instructors here. ____________________ It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world, than 30 years early in the next |

Wow a loss of 6 stone, I'd weigh like 4 stone at the end of that training. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Still a loss of 3 stone on me would take me to a dangerously low body weight. I just don't have that amount of body fat to loose.
Out of interest, did you have to work the beat for 2 years before you could specialize as a traffic cop? I'm assuming you are a traffic cop on this one.
At the moment I'm toying with the idea of a career change, and it would either be politics (become very bent) or the force (probably data forensics or something like that though). ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

I am retired now after being taken out chasing a stolen vehicle on the bike. 6 months in a coma and a crippled left leg for my efforts
You have to complete you 2 years probation before you can specialise. This means learning your basic policing skills, doing a standard driving course as well as other law related courses. Once you are confirmed in appointment at the end of two years you can apply for a specialist department.
Most forces will not look at allowing anyone with less than 5 years service to specialise (although I was lucky and got on with two, but that was in the 70's). You have to attend a selection board, if you pass you then have to do your advanced driving course (Where I believe the current figure is only 2 out of every 7 pass or something like that), and then when you qualify you are posted to a traffic base where your probation starts all over again for 12 months.
During this 12 months, you will do a 6 week traffic law course, vehicle examiners course, speed enforecement course (use of equipment), Motorway course, maybe an HGV/PCV course, Tacho and basic accident investigation course and so on.
If you get through all that, then at the end of 12 months you are on the department to stay, but it takes about 5 years before you can call yourself experienced.
If you then want to go on bikes (you have to start on cars), then the process starts all over again, but usually you have to wait for a vacancy because those already on the bike wing will fight tooth and nail to stay there, but once you are on, you will again have to do specialist courses, perhaps train to become a member of the special escort group, then it is without doubt the best job in the world. ____________________ It is better to arrive 30 seconds late in this world, than 30 years early in the next |

Thought that was the case for traffic police etc, however one of my colleges left and is basically training in london for a year on the computer porn side of things.
No basic beat work as such, just lots of looking at porn on the net and other things like that (its a hard life for some), and that would be more the area I went for if I did. So not quite sure how that fits in, guess the beat work don't matter as much in that side of things as its all pc based work?.
Either way thanks for the info. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!
