I have a 91 CB/Nighthawk 250, I've had this bike for about two weeks, logged around 100 miles on it. Ive noticed that when the you accelerate in 1st and second gear there is a bit of hesitation, if you roll on the throttle and give it a good amount of gas it does not have this problem. Ive changed the spark plugs, and just changed the oil, and this bike being somewhat new to me am unable to figure out the problem. Im hoping its an easy fix, and that somebody might be able to tell me where I might look to fix it.

You have to remember as nippy as these bikes are they are still only a little 250 so they don't take well to harsh attempts at acceleration. Riding smoothly really helps on these.

When you do an oil change you need to take off the right hand crank case cover and clean out the gauze filter. No one ever bothers as you almost always need a new gasket.

If you haven't checked it may well be worth looking at the condition of the air filter, if you need a new air filter there's one here.

The bike does fine under hard acceleration, it is when i am gentle on the throttle that the problem occurs, about 13 mph in first, the problem will happen, and around 20-25 mph in second, if i goose the throttle the problem will disappear. I've rejetted the card up to a 38 on the pilot and a 125 on the main, and the problem still happens. Have not yet checked the gauze filter, will do that monday when I replace the shift shaft. If anybody has any other ideas help would be greatly appreciated.

spark plugs are new, the old ones i pulled out were a little bit black, but were in good shape, no unusual wear on them.

elaborate on the carb boots, the term is unfamiliar to me. and if i need to adjust the mixture where do i go about doing that.

First re-jet it back to standard, there is no need to up the jet size.

Second DO NOT fit a pod filter you will just make it un-rideable.

You say the filter looks ok, what do you mean by ok?

Air filter is oily but other than that color and condition is okay.

I have a friend who has 4 pods on his GS, and his rides just fine, why shouldnt i put a pod on it?

sickpup wrote:
The air filter should be a paper one so NOT oily, it isn't fine.

I very much doubt you have access to a dyno so your re-jet is probably very wrong.

How are you going to set up the carbs for the pods?

I doubt your friends GS does run fine.

well thank you i think you have been the least help out of all the people who have replied, and the rudest.

And I really don't give a fuck although its very sad that you are such a fuckwit.

As to rudeness it would have been nice in your first PM if you had introduced yourself or asked for help instead of just reeling of symptoms and expecting me to answer. Surely the height of rudeness no?

As to your fuck wittery the PAPER air filter being ok even though its covered with oil is just somewhere out there especially when you add that instead of changing the air filter you re-jeted the carb! I bet you don't even have access to a CO2 meter or a EGA do you?

So now as you can't sort the problem you're going to fit a pod filter! what happened to establishing a stable base line from which to work? This was what I was trying to do fucktard. Rolling Eyes

As to being the least help the chances are I was the most help but you really are just to stupid to actually realise.

Have a nice day.

Well Im sorry that we did not establish a forum relationship, how does that work? do we do some sort of online dinner chat, or go to an online movie together? But what happens if you are looking for more and Im not wanting what you want?

Well do not worry, I've got a friend that is a mechanic, and he does not swear at me if I ask a stupid question, or become rude, because he realizes that not everybody knows as much as he does.

So Im really sorry that we could not establish your online relationship/love affair, I hope your not hurt.

So this is the trail of PM's from this member. Has a bike that doesn't run well so instead of servicing his bike decides to mess about with the jet sizes. He has no idea if the jets are the problem just does it anyway.

I did not swear at you until you were rude to me.

My answers to PM's are often short, I work for a living and YOU are not paying my bills. This doesn't make my answers any less accurate just means the time I take to write them is short.

The fact that his (paper) air filter has oil on it so to a degree will be restricting air flow has escaped him so he fits bigger jets making the bike run even richer.

I am not obliged to answer your questions and when my answers don't meet with your approval I don't expect you to get uppity. I will also often tell people what they least want to hear, that they have no idea what they are doing but at least when I don't know I will either keep my mouth shut or say I don't know.

Now go to your mechanic friend and tell him everything you've told me and expect the same replies.

Just clean the carbs. Cb250s are pretty touchy about sitting around for a while or just tiny particles in general. Actually the only jet you need to clean is the slow jet (the smaller one) if the hesitation is within 1/8 to 1/4 turn on throttle. Just open float bowl and unscrew smaller jet. Clean with carb cleaner and insert one bristle from a wire brush through it ( do not force) it should slide through. Spray with carb cleaner again then blow with compressed air. You should be able to see a tiny hole through it. If you can't repeat cleaning. After, replace jet and put bowl back on. You should be set to go. Hope this helps.

lol nice, someones trying to help you then you say hes no help, thats harsh mate, paper shouldnt have oil in it (air filter) spark plugs should be a tan colour and you should never put bigger jets in unless you definatly know what your doing.

good luck with your bike, hope you sort it Thumbs Up
