Last night i filtered to the front of a que of cars at a set of traffic lights, i pulled up at the front next to a black smart car.
It was lowerd and had very wide alloy wheels on it. Exhaust sounded strange for a smart car too.
Anyway he blipped his throttle a couple of times, the lights changed to green and we both nailed it.
By the time i reached 60 (it was a 40 zone) he was 4 car lengths infront of me, I gave up and he drove away from me at speed.

2miles further down the road i pulled into Tesco to fill up with petrol and who was there putting air in his tyre? Mr smart car! So I pulled up next to him to ask him about the car as I have never seen a smart car shift like that.
It turns out Its got a turbo hyabusa engine in it! He says its around the 400BHP mark, so no wonder I got beat.
He told me there are several in the country, think he called it a "Smartuki" .Ive been looking on the net but cant find any pictures.
Karma biscuits to anyone that can!

Tom

I have a video clip at home of one of those Smart cars beating a Ferrari on a drag strip. And the story behind it was that the Ferrari owner asked for his plate to be obscured to spare his blushes!! LOL

Like a go kart basically, high power to weight ratio. I saw a guy once on the M1 who had modified a mini cooper (old shape) and he was killing it on the road. Must have been doing 120-130.

https://www.arielmotor.co.uk/ (this is more powerful an better handling)

Pah. Anyone with a gix thou or busa, zzr14 etc would own them piss easy.

You could probably buy a second hand one cheaper than the package they are offering....and then theres the bonus....its a bike!

I saw a video of a smart vs a ferrari once and as fast as it was, the 1/4 mile times posted suggested that the ferari wasnt trying too hard, or So i remember thinking anyway.

I take it that it's a twin engined smart car to get 400BHP then.

Not nessessarily, Ghost riders Turbo 'Busa has 500 bph and there's plenty of them making up to 450 bhp.

Think you might be missing the point of it a bit.

There's a company called Z-Cars who specialise in bike engine conversions, especially for the 'old' mini. With an R1 engine they claim 0-60 in about 4.5secs. I'd love to have one and keep it as standard looking as possible, then enjoy the looks on the faces of the Scooby-Doo brigade as they disappear into the distance.

Thumbs Up

(They also have an Ultima conversion on their website that boasts 1000bhp!! Mr. Green )

That Smart car would be fun as a sleeper and at the drag strip but presumably it still handles like absolute shit. Has anyone else ever had the misfortune of driving one? They really are wank. It seems like they have had to make them understeer like a fecking boat to stop them tipping over round corners.

EDIT: DOH! Just realised I bumped a two year old thread Doh! I followed a link from the racing against cars thread and forgot I wasn't still on that one Laughing

Move along, nothing to see here Embarassed

Is this the Smart Roadster or the normal Smart car? Dad thinks our roadster is great fun to throw around in the twisties.

Differently to a car that doesn't understeer constantly? Laughing

No offence but you have to admit the handling balance is a firm 100% towards horrific understeer matched up to incredibly slow steering and poor brakes.

What other cars are you comparing it to that you have driven?

Bike engines in cars are cool! Thumbs Up A friend of mine races in the formula 750 (fiat fire engine powered) but they also have what's known as RGB (road going bike engined) racing christ do they shift! Shocked In Italy they have slalom racing on mountain roads most of the cars are fireblade/GSXR powered fiat 500s/126s. Very Happy
