Tarnished licence - one thing I can't polish out.

Filtering through 5-10mph traffic (at around 20mph), crossed a double white, Police by an unmarked bike, then escorted by two Pans (a couple of miles later) into Whiteways.

Fair cop. I'm now £60 lighter.

I feel so dirty.

Shifty

Am i correct in thinking you can cross double whites when overtaking slow moving vehicles - ie Tractors?

Quote:
108: Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10mph or less.

From highway code

Guess not unless you were passing a horse Laughing

I would not pass a horse at a hazard. They spook for nothing and you can't tell the rider's experience in handling the beast if it decides to go off on one.
A hoof in the Baws from one of them stings like f'ck too.

If the obstruction is stationary or parked broken down.
Best rule of thumb is not to cross them. They are there to warn of a hazard/s. Waiting a few minutes is always faster than a pull by the plod if not safer.

The lines mean NO CROSSING but you can still overtake a slower vehicle providing it is safe to do so.

No grey areas about it.

Sure i just posted that, however. no you cant overtake ANY vehicle at a slow speed, just the ones i actually posted. Wink

ps, 'overtake a slower vehicle?' when have you ever overtook a faster one? so from what you say, double whites mean nothing as you can pass aslong as you are faster Laughing

Embarassed I forgot to say,
You can pass another vehicle at double whites providing you do not cross the lines.

Sew if the vehicle is narrow enough or moves over to let you pass (Thanks Mate/Darlin' Thumbs Up ) then you may pass.
