A whole bumper, probably looking at £300+, ring Vauxhall and get a price, remember it needs to be painted in the right colour too. If the polystyrene and fixings aren't all broken and crushed it could be repaired and painted cheaper.

£300 are you mad, Usually costs us around £90+vat per panel.
What's the problem with the bumper? Is it a new one the needs paint or just a scuffed corner?

And don't go to a main dealer anyway go to an independent bodyshop.

NTV650 footpeg hit it at around 40, barely winged it but there are big cracks spread across the entire corner.

My own stupid fault, dropped it on some diesel at a petrol station snapping my brake lever off, then on the journey home from there I was going far faster than I should of been given that fact, but I'd only had it two days. Came round a corner and saw cars, no brake lights on, presumed they were moving slowly, they were stationary, 10 yards and closing, rear brake not so good. Went into a bush to avoid rear ending him.

Should of been on me sodding CG but the axle nut fell off (really should buy a torque wrench Embarassed ) and I had to leave it hidden at the side of the road the day before, and hitch hike some 60 miles home at midnight.

In fact I should probably start working out plans to get the poor bugger back home.

I'm a bit shit at bikes really Mr. Green

It cost b&q something in the region of £1200 to replace the front bumper on my 7 year old mondeo. That was going through the insurance though. If I had been sorting it out myself I could have got it all sorted for about £250-300.

As said before breakers is going to be your best bet, get the colour from the owner and do a national parts search for a bolt on replacement. If you tick it on for him make sure you tighten up all the nuts. Laughing

Dont want to piss on your parade but are you hoping to fob off a 3rd party with the cheapest bumper you can find?

They are probably on a Vauxhall website composing a long thread about taking a biker to the cleaners.

Depends on how bad the damage is, we use A company called bumper to bumper they do smart repairs and and they also do plastic welding. we would pay around £75 for a scared/cracked bumper to be fixed and blown in with matching paint...

bumber prices vary but average mass produced car bumpers around £175 then it will need painting, cost of that varies on colour and who you use.

How old was the car? If its newish the owner will probably go through insurance, even an oldish car if it was me I would still go through the insurance.

Which is why I suggest your looking at £300, unlikely that a 3rd party is going to accept a new bumper from a scrapyard, or ebay and then be told to go to some bodyshop you've arranged to have it fitted at.. It's new bumper, sprayjob and fitting at Vauxhall no doubt, unless you hit an extremely understanding person with a car they don't care about too much.

If it was my bumper tho i'd be getting it done properly through insurance though, as I'd imagine most people would tbh, unless it was just a scratch.

I had a new (rear) Astra bumper 3 years ago. Small ding in it when someone behind me failed to stop at a junction. I expected them to repair it (bit of filler and then spray) but they replaced it.

£600 all in. Vauxhall charge around £75 per hour labour.

2/3 of the cost was labour, spraying the new one. As they would have had to spray the entire bumper anyway, repairing the old one wouldn't have been much cheaper.

Cheers for the advice then, shall get some idea what my insurance wilol be after making a claim, then decide which way to go, either way is shit though, cos my current cash was going towards a laptop for september uni, but I don;t want larger insurance for the rest of my life (especially the next few uni years)

I'm somehow going off topic on the off topic forum by making a post that should really be in the main one, but I don't think I'm warrenting a new post, anyway, new question: For a case like this how is it handled by the insurance company? Do they send someone out to look at the damage, or simply take his recipts of work done or what, is there anything that could be done to prevent them paying out.

Wish the bloke would get back to me, I've phoned twice and left my mobile number on his answerphone, but now I can't find his details Evil or Very Mad

And Monkeypie: your actually in the same boat as the guy I hit Razz
rINSR: wasn;t trying to see if I could fob him off, just get an idea of what it will cost me however he wants to do it
Colin1: Cheers, acually I didn't originally choose the name with the little under-name title thingies in mind, bu I supose it works.
