Hi, can anyone tell me how effective the little fly screens you can get for the likes of GS500's are?

I love the GS500 most of the time, apart from when it's dual carriage way time. I'm used to sports bikes, and the wind blast is awful for any length of time!

If anyone has other suggestions, it'd be a great help!

Many thanks in advance!

Chriss

Aren´t they called windscreens?

No good at screening flys (or wind.)
You need something high.
The wind has to blow over your head to carry flies out of your visor.
I have a higher screen on my touring bike but can still pick up a shovel full of roadkill on big runs oot.

It's not the flies that bug me (no pun intended)!

It's the wind! It feels like my arms are being ripped from my sockets! Sad

on a GS? Razz

im just in the process of removing the fairing from mine to make it naked. a fairing is what your after cos a screen can only do so much.

It's easier to go 160mph on my SV than it is to maintain 60mph on the GS!

Someone must have expierence of something which help make motorway miles a little more bearable!

yeah...i just said...a fairing.

if you really want just a screen then its gonna need to be one of those huge things to offer any protection.

Ahh, sorry, didn't realise anyone made a fairing for the GS! Sorry! Got any links? Googling doesn't seem to return much? Maybe I'm asking the wrong question.

To answer your question, a fly screen will ease the windblast to a limited degree. I bought a Puig flyscreen for £15 + p&p = £20. Good quality item, properly boxed and all that. Search Google products and you will see in no time.

You need to fiddle a bit, as a few degrees either way can cause buffeting around your helmet, but the fiddling is worth it. Importantly, a large screen can cause a front-end weave at 80+, because the turbulence will drive your handlebars about. Flyscreen is good for what it is, and does not affect your handling.

Just to emphasise - I meant to say that the screen I bought is small, and does not affect your handling. The large screen I mentioned is the Vespa/Harley type, which sits high in front of your face. Those are nasty, in my experience.

The Skidmarx Delta screen is pretty good, around £40 iirc and well worth it. It's a double bubble type affair and is a decent size without leading to the weave that Bru is talking about.

Had one on the Bandit - took it off, looks so much better but the wind at 80+ is a nightmare
