...across the road from a friend's house reversed her car over my bike tonight
I heard the bang and crunch, and got outside in time to see the car drive off. Right hand footpeg hanger sheared off, fairing scraped and cracked, clutch lever snapped, left mirror bent, sidestand footbar snapped, topbox scraped. Too dark to see anything else, so will check tomorrow in the light of day.
Luckily another neighbour saw it and identified the drive the car came out of. Got the details from that house, it was a hairdesser who was visiting. I think they must have phoned her, as half an hour later there was a knock on the door - the woman had returned. She was babbling that "I didn't see any bike there - where was the bike? I would have stopped if I had ran a bike over" but started apologising when I said I saw her drive off and that there were other witnesses.
I gave her the option of either I fix the bike myself and she pays, or the insurance can handle it. She had to ring her husband, who wants it to go through insurance. She gave me the insurance document, it's valid, and along with the policy details I have their name and address.
Sodding typical - I haven't ridden much in the last couple of months, and as soon as I get the chance (and the weather says dry and warm for this week) I get a dumb bitch who doesn't know how to use mirrors (or look out the rear window, for that matter) use my bike as a reversing sensor.
So, anyone got a right hand footpeg hanger for a '99 CB500? ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

She's going through insurance for a footpeg?
Unlucky though, hope you get it sorted quickly Seems than all the pegs/hangers on ebay are left hand side
Doesn't look as though they have anything on www.davidsilverspares.co.uk, however send them an email enquiring how much they could get you one for. They should give you a quote number which allows you to order through the 'Email Order Payments' section. They're normally pretty quick to respond and deliver too |

I love it when there's a witness, its top.
My sisters boyfriend had a nice sporty car (he's doctor) and it got hit when he wasn't there. He got back to the car to find the details of the bus that had hit him.
And this was in London. ____________________ I've a twin and a 4. |

I wonder what her reaction would have been, had you ran into her car and pissed off
Bet she would have had the riot police out
Perhaps she should have a hearing test, as she not only didn`t see the bike - but didn`t hear the crunch either
Take her to the cleaners mate ____________________ The Bloke from Stoke |

Just having a quick look through eBay for replacement parts, it's around the £159 mark so far, but I haven't checked the bike over in daylight yet :-
Footpeg hanger, £45
Clutch lever, £10
Sidestand, £8
Mirror, £14
Fairing, £25
Topbox, £57
It rode back ok last night, keeping my foot on the rear footpeg. I'll only need the hanger to get back on the road, there's enough clutch lever left to change gear with. I doubt I'll find the same fairing again, it's a universal Rickman handlebar screen that's probably about 25 years old but was as new and never been put on a bike, which I got from ebay for £20. It's fibre glass, so I can repair and respray it; I can live without it, but I liked it. I might be able to bend the mirror back, the sidestand is useable (albeit awkward to put down) and the topbox still works.
I'll check the bike over today, come up with a figure (adjusted accordingly for my time, inconvenience and blood pressure testing) and give her another chance to stump up the cash. If she still wants to go the insurance route, then as Stinkwheel says it's a hire bike job, and I'm sure those engine casings and exhaust weren't that scuffed when I parked the bike up yesterday. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

Judging by the volume of the Bob Marley she had pounding out when she drove off after I spoke to her, I reckon she was deaf as well as blind.
I almost caught her in the act; I had heard some over-revving coming from outside the house and the hallway was lit up by brake lights, so I got up to have a look and that's when I heard the bang and crunch, but only got outside in time to see her driving off. I reckon she had just reversed straight out of the drive opposite, felt some resistance, put her foot down, heard a bang but couldn't see anything in the mirror and just decided to scarper.
Whether she saw or heard anything is immaterial really - she would have felt the car hit something. I'm sure that she only came back because the people in the house she had visited had called her to say that she was seen doing it. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

To be honest as she drove off and only returned when she had been called and told she had been grassed up I would get a full price dealer quote.
She knew when had hit the bike...
Serves her right that she is going to be well out of pocket. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

or you could go the whole hog , annilate her insurance AND report her for failing to stop at the scene of an accident/crim damage etc.
I'm not sure what I'd do though this happened to me since I park off the road. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. I find this kind of thing bloody annoying, causing damage is bad enough but driving off afterwards is inexcusable - it's nothing more than hit and run.
Spare no expense in getting your bike back to its previous state (or better ) |
