firstly hello to everyone on here Thumbs Up , i have been a regular reader but only just registered.

Me and my girlfriend are planning a trip from bilbao to the pyrenees then to stay with family in the south west of france, then to cherbourg before coming home. Im really looking forward to the trip but im worried about fuel, we both ride sportsbikes with small tanks. Does anybody know if there are many petrol stations in and around the pyrenees, and the rural areas of france?

I will be on a gsxr 600 k6 and she will be on an FZR400.

I hope someone can give me some advice, Wayne. Very Happy

Welcome!

On the French side of the Pyrenees petrol can be scarce in the really rural bits, I had some issues there last summer. I didn't run out but I discovered a new maximum tank range on my VFR400 by free-wheeling on the downhills (45mph without engine assistance!).

This wouldn't have happened had not I forgot which day it was and dropped into France from Andorra on a late Sunday afternoon. Otherwise rural France is generally ok for petrol, but if it's a Sunday there might not be a petrol station open for another 50 miles, so keep an eye on the trip meter and don't wait for the fuel light/reserve tap.
