Hello all

Even though i have not been riding long i am seriously considering taking my full bike test as soon as possible as i now feel confident riding my NSR 125 and have been told recently that they are planning on changing the bike test to make it harder as of next October is this true ?

I would also like to here what you guys think as me and my girlfriend cannot seem to come to an agreement Mad , i have my heart set on a GSXR 600 but she seems to think that i would be better of getting a CBR 600 as it is a better bike.

My lack of knowledge of bikes means i am not able to put up a fair arguement on the subject Embarassed , so i am hoping that you guys can settle this arguement for me please. Let me know what you think which would you have ? Wink

I say go find a dealer which has both, sit on both, see what you like more.

A bike can be totally different in person to how it looks in pictures.

Yes it is in

CBR600F = less sporty (but still very very fast and capable esp the pre 2005 ones) more pillion friendly, less harsh seating position, has luggage hooks.

CBR600RR sportier harsher version underseat pipe revvier faster lighter, etc

GSXR600 is equatable to the CBR600RR,

GSXR600 has very very high performance handling stopping etc, but it pillion unfriendly compared to the CBRF, I'd personally say CBR but I'm semi biased as I own a CBR and I reckon the GSXR is very very very capable but I want touring ability and also as with many super sports 600s its a rev monster the CBR600RR is too but develops power slightly lower down.[/quote]

I'd say the GSXR, well I want one anyway lol.

They are cheaper and you get more for your money thoug hthe paintwork/ build quality isn't best but holds fine if looked after WELL.

They would have said the cbr600 because as you said yourswelf, you're new to riding a large bike and the Honda is more user-friendly from what I have heard.

I'd imagine the CBR is more comfortable and reliable but for the thrills, price and looks I'd have to say the gixxer Thumbs Up

Out of interest, what GSXR are you thinking of, SRAD, K1-3 or newer?

I havent owned a gixxer obviously (Losser plates at the moment) but have riden 1 and have been pillion on 1. Can't say nefin as to the CBR but the gixxer is a very nice bike, great in all aspects (handling, speed, braking) as trist said the build quality isent as gd as the honda but looked after right and cleaned often will keep it tip top!

honda build quality isnt the same as it use to be. it still above the suzukis but theres not as much difference as there once was.
Both bikes are exceptional tools and extremely capable so do your test and try both, get which one you prefer.

Depends what you want from the bike really.

Although I would say get the CBR600F, there are lots of them, so spares are easy to get, they have all day comfort and still show you the naughty side of 150mph. The suspension is great and to be honest is great for learning to push harder on.

You may be 0.1 seconds slower round the track, but I feel the CBR is a much more compitant machine compared to the gixxer. It's less likely to have been thrashed too.

a 636 instead? ,

its not quite as mental as the GSXR600, yet it is sportier than the CBR , but has some of its comforts (seating position etc).

as has bin said, if youre a bit of a hooligan then its the GIXER for you, if u fancy the speed but not the raceyer position an the image that comes with gixers then its gota be the CBR600. Not alot between them performance wise though realy, an unless ur absolutely on the limit on a racetrack ur never guna know about it Thumbs Up

I had the CBR600F straight after test and even restricted to 33BHP they are good fun, sporty and a great introduction into big bikes. Plenty of go nuts potential but easy to handle. I absolutly loved it.

And yeah the riding position and pillion positions are more friendly than a CBRR, but mainly the insurance quote is FAR more friendly! As is price tag if thats an issue.

And when you get the restrictors out then you have a whole new bike to play with, well near enough. One your already used to handling and comfortable with, just a ton more power.

Cant say much bout the GSXR never had one. But CBR gets top marks from me Thumbs Up

I went for the CBR600FY over a gixer for my first bike up from a 125. As said before is pilion friendly took my g/f out a lot on the bike. It will go over the 150 mark when pushed and can be riden hard or at a slower pace. The bike is very forgiving as i made a few mistakes going into bends too fast and the bike kept me from hitting the dirt. The power band was what i used to love on the cbr between 6-7 or 7-8 can't remember exactly you can feel the bike going smooth and pulling. Wink

Hey there mate . . . i'd love a GSXR but have you checked your insurance man , as it stand i am paying 3 times more for a GSXR than a CBR man and all my stats were the same , but if your going to be restricting as i "plan" Evil or Very Mad to do when i get one , your best getting an R6 i have been told from many different dealers for sports 600's they handle the best , and if you don't mind not having the sports look then i would advise the SV650 .thanks hoped that helped mate.kaz

As above, go to a dealers and have a sit/ test ride on a few models, also get some dummy insurance quotes to see if there is a major difference.

I done the above and ended up choosing the Gixxer K4. Had it for a few months now and absolutely love it. Sublime handling, sharp brakes, lots of speed Twisted Evil and I love the styling.

I know a few people who have toured on Gixxers with soft luggage without incident although it looks mightily uncomfortable for pillions but it is a sports bike after all.

Make sure you test ride a few though, best way of finding out if a bikes for you [see my sig for a few gixxer pics] Very Happy

Hi all

After reading all your replies i think i will go for a push bike ha ha only joking Laughing

All joking aside it seems that the majority are in favour of the GSXR.

After visiting a bike shop recently i have seen a K3 GSXR that i really like and think this could be the bike for me. Thumbs Up

After seing me on a GSXR, my Girlfriend now thinks that its more suitable for me as I'm a big fella and a CBR is a smaller looking bike.

Confused Do you think she may be thinking "diet time"?

Cheers,

Shaun.

Haha tidy conclusion there mate Thumbs Up . Uncle had a K3 600 and rated it highly, know where you stand on what to pay for one though over £3500 is a bit much, but you seem to be going the dealer route so those prices will probably crop up.

Well you may be fat, but the Honda is ugly, and you can diet! Laughing

Get the gixxer! imo Mr. Green
