RR= Race Replica

S = Sports

R= Racing

V = the V engine configuration be it twin or 4

ST = Sports touring

F = Faired or Fairing

SP = Sports production

Although I assume CBR, VFR, GSXR, etc. were just abbreviations for bits on the bike, and they've just stuck....

I just presumed the VFR was for V-Four race and VTR was V-Twin Race, but I guess that doesn't make much sense for the 750/800 which are tourers...

Tbh I've not got a clue it was just daft presumption on my part

G - Four stroke multi cylinder
S - Sport, non touring
X - High performance, transverse four cylinder
R - Highly focused race replica

VFR800 engine shares quite a lot of components with the RC45 Superbike, hence the VFR designation.

Sometimes they get it totally wrong.

The NSU Quickly - which is anything but.

The Suzuki Savage - oh dear, say no more Rolling Eyes

Except in the case of various Hondas where it means unfaired Wink.

Generally an f model is less 'extreme' than an R for one reason or another.

However, basically they do whatever they feel like, usually following some vague pattern - however the pattern definitely isn't exact across manufacturers.

What's the GSXF then?

I've always just taken them as some random letters resembling something the original bikes had.. Simialr to how companies are more likely to advertise things if it's nice sounding when abbreviated; VTEC, SRAD etc.

YZF-R
Yahama, Zoom-Fast Racer.
CBR-RR
Car-Beating Road Race Rep
CBR-F
Car-Beating Road Furniture
ZXR
Zoom-Xtrafast Racer (yeah, I should I give up...)

Across the frame layout of the cylinders? As oppose to being mounted in lin with the bike like the Rocket III?

Technically, mines a '99, which makes it an XX-X so it is indeed pornographic material Razz

They throw scrabble pieces across the room and pick the ones that land in coffee mugs.

X used to be Hondas sport bikes prior to them using R, hence CBX then and CBR now...
