How easy is it to do?
I know nothing about bike maintenance and havent the foggiest how to go about chaining mine. Embarassed
Is it something I could do myself or will I need to take it to a garage?

what year is the Bandit?

Changing the air filter on my 02 600 was a doddle, I dont think you even need to take the tank off ...

Hi

Lift seat off, then you find the airbox lid between the battery ad petrol tank. Undo the 2 bolts (that heads point up) and take the lid off (I say lid, it is the back of the airbox that comes off), and then remove filter. Assembly is the reverse of disassembly.

All the best

Keith

It's a 99. Ive taken the seat off but I cant get to the filter box. Its tucked underneath the tank.
If I undo the two bolts that look like there holding the tank on can I just lift it off?

Yup, be sure to disconnect all fuel lines and check routing etc.

Hi

Yes the tank needs to come off.

Tank is held on at the back, mainly by to obvious bolts. However the side panels also attach to it. There are 2 screws holding the side panels to the tank (they undo a couple of turns then pull out, they are not proper screws they just expand the piece they go into), then just a push fit from the side. Once the panels are pushed out of the way a bit undo the 2 bolts holding the tank on (do not loose the rubber spacers the tank sits on). Make sure the fuel is switched to ON or RES (and definatly not prime), then use a screw driver to undo the screw in the middle of the fuel switch and remove the switch (just the plastic bit you turn, otherwise it catches on the frame). Then you need to reach under the tank and undo the connector for the wires to the fuel gauge sensor, and disconnect the fuel line and the vacuum line (ie, large hose and small hose going to the fuel tap). Then slide the tank back an inch or so and lift it off.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

I managed it, took me a while but at least it saved me going to the garage and looking totally helpless!

Cheers Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
