My bike didn't fire this morning, at 3pm or tonight.

I had to kickstart it several times to get it to fire, but I know that when it gets even colder. My bike will really struggle even with the kickstart. Not too sure what the problem can be although the bike is a W reg Taiwanese bike so..

It's recently had a new battery, not a starter motor. But I can't see the need in replacing that. A new plug not long ago. Piston, rings. exhaust.

Although most of them don't have squat to do with firing, just saying.

Any suggestions on getting it to start easier? (even if I play with the carb screw, it still struggles...just keeps turning over and nothing happens even when I open the throttle).

and my bike doesn't have a choke Sad damn the 50cc automatic.

It's on the carb...Hmm

Is that the screw I adjust to change the tickover rate?

If so, it works because when I turn it leen, it dies. When rich it ticks nicely.

You've fucked with your mixture screw, well done, reset it to factory settings.

Thankyou very much. Before you run your mouth you must listen. The screw had been moved many times before I even got the bike, not I just move it to help it start and when it starts, put it back a bit. it works.

cant get factory settings. no manual and im not paying for it to be reset. =[

There is a way of saying things Mr R. Sometimes it appears that you don't appreciate how to say things without causing offence. You can be extremely blunt, for which there is no need.

The guy is just asking for some help, there is no need to insinuate that he is an idiot for altering his mixture screw!

thankyou.

i appreciate your help toby but i'm not on this forum for a fight, i wanna help people and be helped and meet some good bikers.

toby, can you explain how it's...bad if it isn't reset? does it work best at this particular setting or..what? will it help it fire up better than me playing with the screw to make it run more rich?

to rich will foul up your plug and generally make the bike run like shit and to lean will seize your engine, the mixture screw "must" be set right for your engine to work properly.

having to richen up your mixture to start the bike (which is what your choke does) would suggest that your automatic choke is not working

If the choke didnt work, then it would be on all the time. The choke needs to be heated up to close.

Do you have a sports exhaust? They sometimes make the bike hard to start, because of the jet size change, it renders the choke unusable.

Have you got any damp/easy start?

Spraying some down the air intake could get it going. Does sound like the choke isn't working though.

Auto-chokes are generally absolute bollox and far more trouble than they're worth. Wonder if it's possible to convert yours to manual operation.

If that doesn't give you any joy then check that it's sparking by taking the plug out, reconnecting the lead and resting the metal part of the plug (i.e. where it screws into the cyl head) on an exposed metal part of the engine. Then turn it over as if you were trying to start the bike and see if there is a spark. If your mixture is set too rich then the plug (even if it's fairly new) may have fouled up and be giving a weak spark or none at all. When you take it out, see what colour it is. If it's all black then the mixture is too rich, grey/white it's too lean, tan brown it's about right.

i dont have a sports exhaust, i have a yamaha standard one.

erm, i dont think its worth the hassle to make it manual choke. Just need the bike for a few more weeks/months for college and perhaps work, then im done with it Smile

i dont have any easy start =[ and it's giving a good spark, it's the tan-brown colour you described.

thanks for trying to help Thumbs Up Wink
