Is the bit that screws on the top always used? Just pulled my old plug out and wondering if the little nut thing is stuck in the HT lead. I've tried pulling it out with pliers but I don't want to ruin my HT lead if it's not meant to come out.

Try putting a new plug in the HT lead, if it wont click on then the old nipple is stuck in there.

Way to go if you have, not sure how that would happen but shouldnt be hard to get out with some needle nose pliers.

Yeah, it's definitely stuck then, and it's stuck well.

I'll just have to hope I don't pull out more than I want to. I've spent enough on this bike recently.

Why not screw the plug back into the little cap thats stuck inside the HT lead and then pull the whole thing back out in one go?

I tried that - the thread must have sheared. Tried screwing in a self-tapping screw, but that didn't work either.

Probably need a new HT lead. Anyone know where I might be able to find one? Or at least how to detach the other end?

just remove the cap from the end of the lead (they just screw on) and screw a new one on

Are you 100% sure its up there? As the spring that grabs the thread looks similar.

I took the cap off the lead and screwed a new one on as suggested by 2t-Screamer. It's not very good quality cap (it's for a lawnmower, I think) but it seems to do the job. Not bad for £1.25.

I cut open the old cap and it wasn't the old nipple stuck up there, it was a different type of connector, but it didn't fit the new plug with or without the nipple on it.

It's seems to fit better now than it did before so I'm happy.
