Is it as simple as having a bike? What type of Bike?
Wearing leather Shocked

Or is it the life style?

Looking at some posts there are so many different opinion's and I am curious

I don't like the term "Biker" It puts you in a (bracket) I'm a motorcyclist... don't think that comes across the same way as Biker.

It's not what you ride, it is that you ride that makes a biker IMHO

depends entirely on what your definition of biker IMO.

do you refer to a biker as a hulking hairy soap dodging leather clad dude on a bike or simply someone who owns/rides a bike.

im just a guy that rides bikes TBH. im not a biker.

My bike has recently became my main mode of transport, not sure if thats enough to put me in biker class. However when I was 16 my bike was my only mode of transport but was only 49cc still a bike though (well technically a moped even though it had no pedals) was I a biker then? I never rode a bike for 7 years but had a bike in the shed was I still a biker?

To be honest I don't really care too much, I like being on my bike and that's all that matters to me Thumbs Up Very Happy

Someone who rides a motorcyle for pleasure rather than (or as well as) for commuting. A motorcycle enthusiast.

To me being a "biker" is more about the cameraderie (sp?), or as our friends over the pond might say, the brotherhood.
IMO it's more about acknowledging and meeting like minded people, with different backgrounds, but with a common interest.

just some back ground info

I started riding bikes at 13
had bikes for years but no license was stopped and given a producer sold bike that night and didn't ride for over 7 years went on holiday to Corfu Hired a Virago came back and started working towards a bike test 6 months later completed Direct Access

I am in a club but I know a wide variety of people who ride and go to rallies on all sorts from 50cc scooters to 1300 sports bikes

I personally don't care if you ride drive or slide every where on your ass like a snail as long as you're are a nice person who likes to have a laugh

but the main point I am trying to make is that as far as I an concerned I have been a biker since I saw my first bike and felt it rev in my blood and when they put me in that box at the end of it all I will still be a biker

wow where did that come from Embarassed Embarassed

I agree that you can only be a biker if you enjoy riding a bike. If you ride a bike cause it's the only thing you can afford, but you hate it, you are not a biker. You are a biker if you have a bike and are happy about it

Who buys a bike for practicality?

I have my bike, I use it for everything, I could quite easily run a car, but fuck that. Who gives a shit about cars, really.

My definition would be someone who rides a bike almost daily, for both pleasure and commuting, that has an interest in motorbikes in general, does not ride a scooter (any engine size, *cue arguments*), and has a full bike licence, not on 'L's or an A2 licence.

What Toby said... and I had this conversation with my mate whilst sipping tea outside On Yer Bike at Aylesbury on Saturday, you know the eternal question "Am I a biker?" does I ride therefore I am apply?

I dunno, he said I was a biker "a bike enthusiast", I look at it slightly differently. I don't want a second car, I don't want to sit in traffic for 3 hours a day. I like riding a bike, I like to be prepared (just can't get the boy scout out of me... oops!) I like my bike to be well maintained and am prepared to spend the money necessary to achieve this. Does all this make me a biker given that I do it through choice? I suppose it might but I certainly ain't a greabo Cool

Biker always brings up images of patch clubs and fat blokes throwing up on each other, cruisers, rat-bike fashionistas, hard rock, cheesy cocks, beards, self righteous indignation, Harley's, and a 'I'm a REAL biker' attitudes that sit perched between funny and tragic...

I thinik a biker is someone who owns a bike, loves everything about bikes, appreciates their bike, couldn't think of anything better to do with their time or money than to spend it on bikes and when there not on a bike they miss it and constantly read anything published about bikes and is always on this web-site and would prefer to die doing something bike related rather than anything random, but obviously would refer to die of age Wink , i class myself as a biker Thumbs Up

My pals tell me I'm a biker.

I ride for pleasure mostly, but I do have a 4x4 for practicality.

I wear leather, yes its tight!

I read "Streetfighters" mag, although I'm sick of the tits and fanny that drape themselves over the bikes!

I go to the rallies, and don't get a wash for three days! Embarassed

But most of all, its the terrific buzz you get when you turn the key in the ignition and press the start button. Wink

Personally I don't consider myself a real biker...

-I ride a 125
-I'm on a CBT only
-I have 2 cars (just sold the 3rd!!!)
-I only ride in good weather
-I only ride in daylight
-I never read or buy bike mags
-I'm a Land Rover (old ones only) and Hilux fan

...Although as I've broken all my cars, I've recently been using the bike all the time... and I hate wet weather and night riding...
