As part of the full service I am about to give my R6 I am going to change all of the other fluids such as the coolant and the brake fluid, seeing as they have been in there for four years now.

So I have been looking round at the products available for the cooling system and it comes down to either using a traditional ethylene-glycol antifreeze solution that you mix with water or one of these fancy ready to use coolants such as Silkolene Pro Cool, Motul Motocool etc etc.

Obviously the ready to use stuff works out quite a bit more expensive so what I basically want to know is it worth spending the extra cash and using the top notch stuff or should I just stick to the traditional antifreeze bearing in mind that my bike is a modern supersports R6?

What does it say to use in the manual? I'd use that if I were you.

Well in the manual it just states to use a "high quality ethylene-glycol antifreeze with corrosion inhibitors suitable for aluminium engines".

But what I do notice is that the majority of bike shops that you go in mainly sell the ready for use coolant rather than a traditional antifreeze solution.

The other thing to bear in mind is that I live in a hard water area and would probably need to purchase some distilled water to mix with the antifreeze as the tap water round here isn't good for cooling systems.

I don't mind spending the money on a proper coolant - I just want to know if it is worth it?

Umm what I usually do is just buy pre-mixed coolant, but when I have bought seperate anti-freeze I've always used distilled water with it...

Go for pre-mix Smile
