I everyone. I am seriously thinking about taking my big bike test. But i dont think i have enough experience on the road. How much experience did everyone here have before going onto something bigger and more powerful. IF I took my test i would only ride a 125/250 still for 2 years. But as im into buying project bikes and repairing them it opens up what i can buy and ride legally.

Thanks all Thumbs Up

I passed my CBT on 26th May, bought a bike in mid June, rode it for a few weeks (100 miles a day to work) then wrote it off in a piss-poor accident. I was without a bike until the day before my test, and passed with flying colours.

I'd highly recommend at least a little bit of tuition.

A reputable bike instructor should take you out for a free assessment and tell you how many lessons he thinks you need.

I rode for 12 months/10,000 miles on a CG125, then did a 5 day DAS and bought a GS500E.

Did CBT and bought a little cg125 to commute back and forth work while increasing confidence...

Had that for 3 months, bought in winter, sold in spring for profit...

As Toby says i had a free assesment on a cb500 by local instructors and passed my DAS on three day course...

last time i rode was about 15 years ago, and then i only rode up to a 125
Went in for my DAS and got a gix750.
as long as you just take it easy then i dont think it matters what bike you have

It's done differently in Dubai. You do your license at 17. End of story, you can ride whatever you want.

Prior to my license the only experience i had was crossers. The first road bike i rode was a 250 single. And then a 400. And then a 600RR. That was all in the space of week.

Regardless of my crash, i think i'm capable of handling a bike as long as i'm not a c**t on it.

At the end of the day, it's down to you and how power you think you can handle.

Had 2 attempts at my cbt, then rode for a year on 3 different bikes, a 100, 125, and a 70. Took my test in april after a day of training and passed first time with no faults, then went and picked up my new bike. AWESOME.

Three months of moped riding when I was 16, and the occasional field bike session.

Then I did a Three day 'Nowt to full licence' course when I was 21 and never looked back.

I was driving cars from 17 onwards so wasn't entirely unversed in roadcraft though.

I did my CBT end of July, and my DAS is booked for the first week in October.

So i will have had just over 2 months of practise on my CG125...

Only doing the DAS to get rid of the "L" plates, keeping the CG125 for a while longer yet. Smile

I did my test many years ago (22) then the test was part 1, pt2, end of ride what you want.

I had lessons with BMF, 3 hours every Sunday for 6 weeks, if you passed their test then you could put in for official one. I rode a 125 for about 6 months, including time before test and until I got a bigger bike, which was a Honda XBR500 (single cylinder).

So far I have had 1 crash in 22 years, so I must have done something right Rolling Eyes

Previous to my CBT I had never ridden a bike. I did my CBT start of August 2003, then did my DAS over a period of two months (about 2-hourly lessons every week) due to work commitments and passed my test October 2003. I didn't do any riding between lessons. I bought a ZZR600 and collected day after my test. Havent really looked back since, love getting out and about just wish I had done it sooner in life.

I gave up when I was 18, did my CBT October last year after a 21 year break, rode a 125 through the winter, did a 2 day DAS in March passed, bought a 650 that day, bought a 1000 to replace it Friday, no hassle, no problems... so far! Mr. Green

I rode a 50 for a year then I rode a 125 for a year. I did my test on the 125 which gave me a full licence then bought a 350 powervalve. This was far too much bike for me and I would have crashed badly if it hadn't broken down repeatedly.

I then rode a 26hp Czechoslovakian 350 for two years and a GPZ500 for seven years. I now have a VFR750. I'll be going out on my KLE500 this weekend for a razz about on some backroads though, I just take the VFR if I'm doing distance work.

Hi

Learner for ~21 months riding an H100S, then CB100N then an MBX125. Did the Star Rider silver course and then did the BMF course before my part 1. 6 months later did my part 2. Had done ~25000 miles on the road by the time I did my test.

All the best

Keith

Never ridden a bike before in my life before I did my CBT then 5 day DAS and passed first time.
I had already bought my bike so failure was not an option to be taken.

(gotta love nz licence laws) i'm surprised im alive to tell you, but, if you can keep your cock in your pants and try not to wave it about, you should be sweet stepping up to a big bike fairly quickly

Absolute zero bike experience (I'd never even sat on a motorbike) until the day of my CBT.
Did my DAS soon after and passed first time.
