im 17 yrs old and will soon be taking my CBT

but there are a few things i wanna just make sure of,

1. i do my CBT and (f i pass) then get a 125cc with or less than 14.6bhp but no more...
and i cant get a higher BHP than that untill i have pass my theory and practical is that right?

2. i want to get the A2 full motorcycle licence, where do i get this? do i have to apply for it or will they ask me what i am wanting to get before i take my practical test? because if i take my practical test with a 125cc but not capable of more than 62.5 mhp i wont be entitled for the A2

only thing is says on the internet is that i must pass my theory and practical, and also the bike must be more than 120cc but no more than 125cc and must be capable of more than 100kph (62.5mph)

will they supply me with a bike that is capable of more than 62.5 mph or will i have to provide it myself?

Hey there mate , yes you can do your CBT then take your theory and then book your practical with as many lessons before as you and the instructor think you need and as for the bike at a little more cost you will be able to hire a bike from the training school , that will then provide you with an A2 liscence which means that you can ride a motorbike no matter the engine size as long as it is restricted to an output of 33BHP , this is what i plan to do , but have to fight a war to get there lol as my parents want my car liscence on the table before i go for this , but all that means is come next year i can save for an R6 , well hope that helped . thanks.kaz

About the speed of the bike, it shouldn't matter too much.

On my practical test route I wasn't physically able to go above 50mph, otherwise it would have been dangerous, as the area I was in was narrow and very very twisty.

If your bike turns out to be quite slow then you can always use one of the centers hire bikes, they normally don't charge more for this (it was included for me).

Look in the yellow pages or on google for a motorbike/cycle testing in your area, you should find a couple of companies. Call them up and they will book training and a test for you, then you need to go the dsa website to book your theory test.

Just tell the test center you want to do your A2 and they will give you all the advice you need.

If you book through a training school then they will provide the bike and so you don't have to worry about that. They should also be able to book the A2 test for you as they block book so you don't even need to go on the DSA web site. Basically, look for a good training school, tell them what you want to acheive and then let them guide you through the whole process.

Chris.

The A2 test is just a name given to the practical to signify your license type, as an A test will be for a over 21 test, and an A1 test is for the light motorcycle test.

Theres only one practical test you will do.

Confusing isnt it. Smile

The A2 is the restricted license test. So once you pass you can ride like was said, any bike, but it has to be restricted to 33BPH output
Any bike can be restricted, even a superbike. Some take it better than others

Once 2 years are up, it automatically gets upgraded to a full license, and you can ride anything unrestricted.

The full license is only available if you are 21 years or older.
This has to be taken on a bike that has a power output of MORE than 47BPH. Once passed you can ride any bike, with any power output

The only tests you need as you are 17 are:
CBT, this allows you to ride up to 125cc with max power of 14BPH (ish) This runs out after 2 years, and has to be re-taken

The Theory test. This is a classroom test, 50 questions, and then 14 hazard perception questions where you click the mouse to identify hazards. You need a CBT to sit this. This is valid for 2 years after the date you passed

The A2 test. This is a practical test, and is your riding test. Once passed you are restricted to 33BHP for 2 years, then u are unrestricted. To take this you need a valid CBT and Theory test certificate

Costs vary, but as rough figures:
£90 for the CBT
£30 for the theory test
£60 (£70 at weekend) for the A2

It is advised you take some lessons for the A2 for your riding methods. You are taught to pass the test and be safe on the roads.
Couple of ways you can do this, 1 is to just book riding lessons with an instructor, and when he says you are ready book the test and away you go

Or, you can do a 3,4 or 5 day course, which is the test fee + 3,4 or 5 days training. These are about *£400??

"Figures pulled out of my arse.
