New 1988 NSR125F owner in Canada wondering about my ride

I bought a 1988-9 NSR125F and before I take delivery of her I have some questions as to lubricants and prices. I don't know if Honda makes a 2-stroke oil and I'm not sure I can afford it. Royal Purple and PJ1 are popular premium synthetic brands here. What do UK NSR owners reccommend? And what crankcase lube do you use? Furthermore, I paid $1,600US (about 790 Pounds i think). New tyres (Bridgestones), folk seals, front brake pads and chain were installed before the sale. Did I over pay, or did I get a good value? There is no benchmark in N. America to compare a motorcycle like this to. Honda just started selling the CBR125R this spring in Canada ($4,400CDN, all freight, taxes, and crap).

Depending on mileage and condition it sounds like you've paid a good price with all the parts that have been replaced. As for oil, just about any 10w40 oil will do for the gearbox while you will want a good quality semi-synthetic 2 stroke oil. Honda don't make their own oil, I used to use Silkolene/Fuchs Comp 2 Injector and Castrol TTS (full synthetic, probably not worth the extra money) but I'm not sure if either of those are available to you. Ask in your local bike dealer and they will be able to advise you which 2t oil is appropriate.

The mileage is 11,680 kms. The bike was driven for 5-6 years, then stored in a warehouse until the owner was forced to sell last year. It was then put in a shipping container with several other 15+ year old machines and shipped to Canada for the ever growing grey-market. The seller claims in regards to condition it is an 8.5 on a 10 point scale.

I payed £510 for mine. Didn't have any components recently replaced though, just had a spare tyre and a carb.

Just to clarify, it's worth checking whether you have the NS125F or the NSR125F. They are completely different models, so it's worth knowing which you have to avoid confusion.

I'm presuming you have the former from the date you mention, however it's quite possible it's the latter too.

Either should be decent bikes - and I'd definitely prefer to have them to the CBR.
If it is the former, there's a Haynes manual available for it. For the latter there's a workshop manual you can download about the place.

Hi

I have an NSR 125f '89 its black and blue with orange mag wheels. Ive just had the engine rebuilt and its got 4.500 thousand kilometers on the clock. I believe it is an import as it doesnt have mile conversion on the clock. The bike for its age is nice its clean a really good runner and it goes like stink. The bike is soon to be MOT and taxed and then im selling it. I cant find a price guide to go from. I bought it about 5 years a go seized it within 6 months and it has sat im my garage till recently, now the engine has had a complete rebuild top and bottom end. If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated
