Thought i would do a mini write up on my trip i did in july. I wasn't going to bother but after the recent "touring on your own" type threads thought this this mite anchorage/help people who are thinking about going it alone..

I have forgot alot of the dates and places because i pretty much wing'd it for the whole trip an never jotted any of it down..wil remember much as possible.

I left sunday the 8th of july from dumfries (southwest scotland) heading for my uncles house just outside peterboro around 250 miles. easy, or so you would think.
Was a great weather an had a good ride listening to scrubs soundtrack on the tomtom910 that i had stored in my tankbag. got onto the m6 an encountered the heaviest rain i have even seen. the motorway turned into a river.. i stopped on the hard shoulder under a bridge with a few other bikers who had decided it was to dangerous to ride aswel. No big deal got my waterproofs and waited for th rain to die of a bit.. Made it to the end of the a66 just before scotch corner in the middle of the road works before my next unexpected stop.
Yup the bike knonked out wile sitting at idle in traffic. Great a whole 60miles from home an my trips over i was thinking. After much tiptoeing an rocking i managed to get the bike over a central reservation into a layby infront of must have been 100 cars. I stripped of the waterproofs hunted out tool kit. After hmming n Ahhing for a bit i assumed ther must be a short circuit sumwer brung on by the heavy rain. after disconnecting the wiring i had riged for the tomtom i tryd to get it started by running with it an bump starting it, nearly dropping it as it tryd to run away from me once it fired up after 10 or so pushes.. much to the amusement of all the car drivers sitting nice an dry in their cages. The rest of the ride down was pretty uneventful.

leaving my uncles house a bit later than plannerd i made it to the m25 just in time for rush hour....cue lots of silly filtering and forgeting i had big panniers on. Making it over the queen Elizaeth bridge Some nob in a bmw tryd to block me from filtering past. wile i was passing him... hitting his wingmirror and neerly sending me under some truck wheels.
made it to dover for mid day ferry got talking to a few other bikers, one dutch guy who had came from riding about the yorkshire dales.

Off the ferry an i was onto riding on the right for the first time. I didn't find it to hard although i did catch myself undertaking people every now and again. Making my way east towards the nurburgring i raced some girl on some old Kawasaki. Also following a people carries in the middle lane it suddenly started smoking an before i knew it i was cover in oil splatter from the exhaust as it pulled over onto the hard sholder lol. not a big problem till it started to rain an i wiped my visor....

Turning of the motorway i got into the Eifel mountains and some of the best roads i see on the whole trip. I really could have spent a whole week there riding around. At first i couldnt find the nurburgring and infact i had ridden rite by it and ended up at the proper racetrack. I made it back to the nurburgring but as i suspected it was closed an they were unloading the crashed cars of the day in the car park. It was getting late (around 7oclock) an thought i should find sumwer to sleep for the night. tomtom told me that ther was a campsite 6k away called "Campsite Dental" which i strongly recomend to anyone planning on camping at the nurburging. it isnt as big as the one across from the race track an was in a much better state with a restraunt/showers/bar only costing 10 euros and night. after talking to a German couple "who were guys" i got into my tent just as it was getting dark.

I woke up to a scorching hot day, unpacked the bike an put all my uninportant stuff in the tent and headed for the ring! leaving the tomtom behind i was sure it wasn't to far. after an hour of some great riding i made it to the nurburgring a journey that had previously taken 10 minutes lol. I also saw yelow wheely bins!! wtf
and a gang of workmen wearing hotpant......
The nurburgring has to be the greatest place on earth. Making the foolish mistake to line up as one of the first people out of the gates so had about 100 odd bikes and cars come by me before the end of the first lap. I spent the day with two irish guys on a blade an a gixxer who had came across in a campervan an couple of english lads touring europe in a new mini. on my second lap out i neerly binned it. missing my braking point as i was checking my mirror. hit the red/white corner marings sending the bike into the air. landed on grass at around 70mph was fun. managed to get back onto the track. I slowed down a bit after that. I have no idea what time i was doing but i felt like about 3mins a lap lol.
At this point i considered not going any further south and spending my time at the ring as i enjoyed it that much. I decided against that plan knowing i could always come back another day. I headed back to the campsite for another encounter with Hauns an his gay lover...... Confused

I kept up with a Porche GT3 and a Renault Megane sport (Nurburg one) when I went around the ring this year. I a bit disappointed at the speed of driving there. I was expecting to be the slowest person there when in fact I was overtaking all the time.
