Ok, here's how the story goes:

Passed my CBT in September 2006, 2 months after turning 16. I rode a moped around for a year which I am currently trying to sell. A month after turning 17 I used some money to buy a 1988 NSR125F for £500. It's a pretty decent bike but I have recently had some serious problems with it. I have had it for about 2 months and only managed to get 230 miles out of it because of engine problems and it is really starting to get on my nerves because of being late to college due to break-downs. I was planning to complete my full UK motorcycle test within 6 months from now by getting plenty of practice in on the NSR and getting a few lessons to sort out the timing of my lifesavers (I have been told I'm doing well for a first time, geared bike rider). I think now that I have 2 choices before I take my test in order to give me the best possible chance of passing. I was planning to keep the NSR after I completed my license (as it is 30BHP and cheap insurance) but due to these problems I may not be able to as I have payed £90 in the last week and it is still knakered. Ive decided I can either try and get it fixed, sell up (and the moped), do my test ASAP and spend loads of money that I haven't got on a ZXR400 or I can get the NSR fixed and don't ride it as not to break it again and sell both bikes (Estimated at £800-900 for both bikes) and buy a Cagiva Planet / RS 125 for use after my test so as to get a decent bike for 1 - 2 years with dirt cheap insurance.

If anyone could guide me in the right direction I would be VERY grateful!

Thanks in advance,

Gazza

EDIT: Also need to take into mind that I am only 5' 5" and have had hip problems in the past so struggle on tall bikes. The NSR is perfectly comfy. I have also tried out a friends' YBR which is only a few inches taller but is pushing it a bit.

i would get rid and buy something more reliable.A bike that is constantly giving you problems is as bad as no bike at all.

Couldn't of said it better really..... Would be ur best bet mate, sell and buy sumfin alot more reliable as its a case of never knowing when the bike may break down again and you wouldn't wanna get caught out miles from home!

It's either that or throw real money at it to get it overhauled.

Trying to run a bike on a budget often means making the choice not to maintain it correctly because of financial issues.

Trust me I know.

If you really are strapped for cash then get a bike with a reputation for taking bause.

You could sell both up and buy a CG125 just to practice on because then you know it's going to last for what you want it to.
With the extra money you have got from seeling go for your test. You probably won't have any money afterwards to buy a bike but at least you have your full licence. The sooner you get it the sooner that your 2 year restriction will end.

Do you have an income of any sort?

I earn £220 a month + overtime working 12 hours a week whilst at sixth form. Turns out I'm going to have to buy a new engine for about £60-100. Otherwise I will get peanuts for selling it spares or repair. Also, I can't stand the CG, YBR etc.

Thanks for the advise anyway.
