That fine along with the loss of any money for the points the get at the end of the season could well put Mclaren out of F1 completely Shocked

Hi

Am I the only one who sees little wrong with what Mclaren had apparently done?

Or next year will all the teams be fined massive amounts if one of their members looks at one of the competitions cars?

All the best

Keith

No point in having rules if no ones going to enforce them.

Hi

So what is the rule? Having a few details from a competitor? How far down that path do they want to go?

Seems the only effect of the extra knowledge was to be able to point out that Ferrari were attempting to break some rules.

All the best

Keith

I don't think it's quite as bleak as people are making out, itv-f1, Autosport costly yes, financially and from a championship perspective, but I guess they'll appeal anyway.

In a nutshell Hellkat it's industrial espionage, Ferrari vs McLaren, with McLaren ending up with a Ferrari document possibly via Nigel Stepney. But it looks like Ron, Lewis and 99% of the McLaren workforce are innocent but corporately McLaren are guilty.

Have to wait until all the information is released tomorrow to find out the full story. must be pretty damning evidence though to merit a fine like that.

Agreed. What next, accusing another team of having a spoiler that looks a bit like yours? One employee having a dossier is one thing but they haven't even proved that any of the information in it has been used in any way, shape of form.

Surely the burden of proof should be on those making the accusations? Innocent until proven guilty anyone?

The decision means Ferrari, who go into this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix second in the constructors' championship, 57 points ahead of third-placed BMW Sauber, are almost certain to be crowned champions.

Wow. So a double win for Ferrari and a double kick in the teeth for McLaren.

Wish someone from Yamaha would burgle the Ducati office. Might make next GP season more competitive...

The funny thing is a very similar situation cropped up a while back with Toyota, and there were no consequences whatsoever. In fact the Toyota employees were convicted and given suspended prison sentences but the FIA still completely ignored the event. It's just typical F1; everyone's got an agenda.

Yep, and the FIA's/FOM's is unashamedly pro-Ferrari. Oh well.

The reasons the FIA give had better be good... I can't see how such a massive fine and punishment can be handed out if the drivers are still allowed to climb in the cars and they didn't need to interview the two key men this entire scandal revolves around.
