You need more than a ratchet set to protect you.

Get some armoured cable, about a foot's worth.

I'm sure if you are going in as a trainee that they will understand you will have limited tools, and boy quality tools snap-on, mac, etc are bloody expensive. if you was working for any cab firms around here!! you will only need to brush up on you're bodging skills... go get some haynes manuals and start reading.

Would I be right in thinking it will be mainly maintenance, rather than diagnosing problems and such like.

Nah it wasnt an advertised job, I just popped in and asked as they are only about ten doors down from my house.

Said I had minimal experience and was looking to learn more, I will just make up in enthusiasm what I lack in knowledge.

just show up on time and if you are not sure of anything don't be afraid to ask,as soon as you finish one task, ask for another, don't wait to be told, don't appear to be cheeky and don't join in with the banter until you know peoples limits, you don't want to rub people up the wrong way when you're the new boy,try to enjoy yourself and everything will be fine.

Thats how i got my job, i think you have done the hardest step already and they must like yer (i cant fucking preach im 18 >.>).

I have craploads of friends who cant get a job, but all they do is send CV's off and never bother going into a shop. I think employees like the fact your bothered to come in and ask, rather than me a lazy cunt and photocopy CV's (eg my mate). Thats what my experience has been. Good luck Thumbs Up

Good luck, because working on taxis is SHITE with a capital SHITE. Laughing
Are the taxis proper london cab types or normal avensis' vectras and mondeos?
We hate taxis so much at work we now turn them away, because nothing is ever simple with their heap o crap mobiles. Simple headlamp adjustment turns into trying to fix their bodge job of holding a h7/h4 bulb in the lamp, i've even had one taxi that had a bulb soldered/glued into the lamp because the retaining spring had been broken! Shocked
I hope you do well but the cars are usually in a bad way. Thumbs Up Least you'll be busy! Laughing

Not the London ones, just typical motors used as cabs and quite few minibuses, from what I have seen and using them quite a bit, most of their cars are quite new rather than old dogs, but some of the mini buses are getting on a bit.

Been trying to get back into learning the trade for a while but my age has been going against me a fair bit.

Only 23 but they all want 16yr olds.

No tell us now, we can spend the week "breaking" taxi's so they'll need all the help they can get.
