I've had the same problem today. I was getting pop ups saying there is a new version available but ignored it.
Now I can't find a new version searching via google. Sounds ridiculous but I just keep coming up with some windows live phone thing.

Yes - partly due to a webcam exploit that was discovered, MS are forcing users of old Messenger versions to upgrade.

People who are already on the latest Live Messenger won't have a problem.

Just download what's on that page, that is what you want.

I'm still using the old one, i can't stand windows live so
go to your MSN Messenger folder (usually under C:\Program Files) and right-click msnmsgr.exe. Then under Compatibility mode, select Windows 2000 from the dropdown menu. When you launch MSN Messenger, it'll go through a short repair process and everything will run like normal again.

you can also use a hex editor which is another method but more complicated, but it allows you to use which version you want.

I was using msn 7.5 and it told me to install live to continue. I hate windows live, don't see why they force you to update

Sad

I hate it too, do as said, reinstall 7.5 and modify the properties of the msmgs.exe to Win2K compatability, it won't make you update to Live.
