Hubby and I are going to be doing 3 weeks in Canada during either June or July next year.

We will be renting bikes and touring from Vancouver to Alaska.

Has anyone done anything similar in Canada that could share their experience / contacts / recommendations of bike hire companies?

Also, does anyone know any good Canadian Bike Forums?

Cheers in advance Thumbs Up

For renting the bikes and getting flights have a look on www.redflagdeals.com for promotional codes, it's a Canadian based website. Been looking at Canada recently myself and using codes off there straightaway took £50 off flights and £80 off a car hire.

Did consider the whole bike thing but decided for the mileage and practicality issue of sightseeing and stopping wherever and whenever without loads of hassle I rented a car instead. Plus you get a lot of Black Bears in laybys and crossing the road Laughing

They're pretty good for finding cheap flights. We flew to and from Calgary in June and the flight was £320 all in. Flyglobespan and Zoom seem to be the cheapest airlines (we flew with Globespan, not a problem).

We didn't spend a lot of time in Vancouver, only a couple of days but can definately recommend the Aquarium in Stanley Park which is by far the best I've been to, and although it's quite expensive, Capilano Suspension Bridge is worth a visit just north of there.

Accomodation wise, we just made it up as we went along using Motels and the occasional B&B, looking at about £30-40 a night usually, more in the City. The big ones aren't that cheap and vary in quality even if they're the same franchise, Super 8 are usually expensive and not that amazing (with crap breakfasts) but they are all over the place and mapped so always good as a last resort.

Lastly you'll obviously need to check with the hire company if they'll let you take the bike into Alaska and even into the Yukon, as a lot won't allow it, or charge a lot extra. 2nd problem is if you're only going one way, if they allow it, they'll usually charge you a fortune for a one way rental and as of yet don't know of any rental companies that allow you to leave a Canadian hire vehicle in a US State.

Cheers for your replies, as we're making plans it's looking like we won't go as far as Alaska, think we're going to head east then north and then north east, using the ferries to head back down via the fjords and stuff Thumbs Up
