PostPosted: 00:05 - 17 Sep 2007    Post subject: "Streetfightering" My NSR Reply with quote

Hey Guys, just thinking about what I'm going to do with the ol' NSR today and it occurred to me "Why don't you make it into a streetfighter??" Anyway, I just have a few questions about it.

Here is the best picture of the handle bars I could get without having to take another photo...

https://i17.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/ac/0b/c3ed_1.JPG

I was hoping to fit a set of renthal/renthal style bars to it such as these...

https://www.bikeit.co.uk/barsgripslevers/images/04dragbars.jpg

https://www.bikeit.co.uk/barsgripslevers/images/diagnew.jpg

I was wondering, what do I need to be able to fit these bars to my bike? And will all the switches just slip back on?

I was also thinking about changing my headlight, it is far too eighties for my liking, but that's what you get for buying an eighties bike eh?

Anyway, i have two choices> I can either choose a set of small "Bandit Style" twin headlights such as these...

https://i22.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/b5/cf/017c_1.JPG

Or, I could attach a supermoto-stylie light such as this one...

https://i18.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/b6/39/03d9_1.JPG

Opinions?

Thanks for your time.

Gazza

probably a clamp set, you'd have to make your own, or buy some off ebay but more than likely fabricate your own.

Yeah try and pick up a second hand top yoke to try fitting a riser kit. Might need a longer brake/clutch/throttle cable at worst!! A mate of mine has them same twin spot lights on his vfr750 and they are good enough for over 100mph at night on unlit roads Shocked

I'd have to get some on eBay, not too good doing any practical work with my hands nor know anyone capable of making some successfully. Just had a look on eBay and cant seem to find any, or have I searched incorrectly? I typed it "clamp set" in "Motorcycle Parts & Accessories Confused

Do you want your bike to look like a 'streetfighter', or to improve it's performance for 'street' use?

If it's the former (as it's already a naked bike and crashes fairly well Smile), then do whatever you think looks good - it's your bike already.
If it's the latter, down gear it a bit and try and get the suspension set up for you, as well as wide bars.

Lots of people think a streetfigter is all about some bits from the motrax catalogue and a nice paint job.
Personally I consider it the opposite - should be about a bike that's designed to be a better /ride/.

Thanks G, I'm not a racer, therefore I don't need any performance upgrades. Just looking for some good looking extras, but I have a thing with buying something then when I get them, they don't fit. Sad

Your bike has clip-ons those bars will not fit even with those risers off fleabay. To make them fit you will need a new top yoke, then the bars should fit on without the need for risers.

Then you will need to get the clocks to fit and the hardest part the switchgear and cables. The flat bars are longer and you wiring and cables may be way too short to fit them. Its not going to be easy to fighter it and it may take a while to do so make sure you have alternative transport. Wink

Common practice is to drill holes in your current yoke.
However, for that I'd go for ones with a single rather than double studs/bolts on each riser.

The clocks should fit fine because his bike is already naked - they clip on to the top yoke.
I don't think there should be a big problem with the wiring, but there may well be with the cables. Shouldn't be too hard to solve.

Personally, I wouldn't really say it's making it a streetfighter - just 'customising' it.

You don't need to be a racer to get performance enhancements - rarely do streetfighter get raced, rather people want to make the performance more suited to the riding they do.

As you foolishly asked for opinions Smile ... as ever, my opinion is that I'd think the bike would look a hell of a lot better as it is well ridden, rather than covered in shiny stuff Razz.

Before ruining any resale value your NSR may have, I recommend doing your test.

This is the kind of thing you need for your bars:

https://www.austreetfighter.com.au/scart/html/57.html

Then the renthals should fit straight on. I just fitted renthals to my bike the other week (although they already had upright bars so I didn't need a new fork yoke) and although there only seems to be a bit more of a rise on the new bars compared to the old ones I had to spend ages re-routing all my cables and electricals to get them to fit properly.

Also, in my opinion, 1 big round headlight always looks best for streetfighters as opposed to those enduro headlight units.

I am planning to keep it after doing my test anyway, no need for a bigger bike yet, and the insurance is dirt cheap Thumbs Up
