NSR-125 RX, sounds funny :(

The sound is coming from the engine while the bike is still so its not coming from wheel bearings or calipers (sound continues while moving).
From a cold start there is a slight clung sound about every 3-5 seconds for the first 30 seconds, but this goes away when the engine warms up.
There is also a sort of whisper hiss sound which is fairly constant at all speeds, I can't say if it is still there or not at high rpm as the noise of the engine drowns it out.

Spark plug is new and tight.
I have been using V power petrol but I changed back when my wallet ran dry.
2-stroke bottle has never been empty (I top it up every day)
Bike has nearly 30K Km on her I bought it at 26K km and changed the oil.
After cleaning the engine it takes about a week to develop a skim of oil with black speckles around the carb and top of engine block (I don't know if this means its a leak or just road crud)
Head gasket was changed at 25K km.
Noise is the same in gear and in neutral and with the clutch on.

I am changing the oil tomorrow so I will check for metal fragments.

That's about a much information as i can think of, please help if you can. Any and all replies are welcome

you should be looking at around £200 plus parts.
not sure who would rebuilt in ireland, there must be a good 2 stroke tuner about somewhere,

i will suggest also to adjust your oil pump a bit more than normal (3-4mm pass the notches) and if the noise pass away this is the sign of worn crank bearings or the 2 balancer bearings

Firstly yes I am stupid.

I checked the water level in the cooling system and it was dry! I filled it bk up with anti-freeze and water and the sound is gone.
I guess the watter pump was pumping mostly water which was making the noise but it could have been one of the pipes making the noise.

But at 30K i do think she needs a rebuild. Could any of you tell me what a rebuild consists of?

de3pends what you want. the basic "rebuild" (not a rebuild as such) consists of a new or rebored barrel, new piston and piston rings, and new small - end bearing + all the gaskets you've removed.

the deluxe (or, "full") rebuild is the above plus new main crank bearings, maybe new big end crank bearing depending on wear, and a full set of the various oil seals in the engine. the gearbox bearings may need doing too if it feels rough.

if you do a rebuild from a badly siezed engine(going into serious money here) you may need anything from an entire new crankshaft, to various cogs in the gearbox.

either way, it aint cheap Sad

to have an idea , here is a spare list for a top-end rebuild , just know that the kit barrel-piston is now £105 instead of £85 .prices are ex VAT and you can add a cylinder head at £20

I've booked my mate to come over tomorrow to take a look at it, hes a heavy machine machanic but works on bikes in his spare time im gona get him to take a look at it, the bike has had a fair few previous owners you never know maybe it has had a rebuild.

I think you will find that if its a hissing noise and your water is low there is a good chance its nothing more than a loose waterpipe. Rolling Eyes

yea how crap, found the pipe its the over flow back to the reserve water tank it looks like someone was chewing on it.

Now onto the next problem, I filled my bike up with dirty petrol from a petrol station, after i refill with good petrol im going up there with a crow bar

Do you have any idea how stupid that sounds?

What is a hell of a lot more likely here, is that the petrol is fine, but mr. incompetent has knackered his engine by running it with no coolant, and now it needs a rebuild.

Does it feel really rough, but with a powerband about 500rpm wide?

If so, thats an engine thats been siezed.
