I would like to know where a starter clutch is on a motorcycle as im not sure is it in the gearbox or is it in the starter motor

the bike in question is a kawasaki GPX 600 R and im wondering what the easyiest way to replace this starter clutch, If its in the starter motor i was gunna replace the starter motor but ive been told on these its an engine out job.

Any reply would be great i spent 6 years as a mechanic but have never touched a bike in my life so this is gunna be a massive learning curve for me :S

Usually the starter motor clutch will be under the generator cover (left hand side round style cover).

The starter motor will be above this.
when the starter motor spins it will grip against the starter clutch which is attached to the crank/flywheel. However, it should have some mechanism that will prevent the starter clutch from gripping the starter motor when the engine is spinning.
