I used it to check my battery, very healthy, and then with Gazdaman's helpful......help I used it to determine which of the indicator wires was positive which stopped my alarm shorting itself every two pissing minutes! So in my case it has paid for itself.

basically plug into electrical thingys and it tells you how much power its giving out.. i think

i'll just nick one from the physics lab if ever i need one

edit: i obviously type as fast as someone with ADH and parkinsons.

You put the probes across items in a circuit to check the voltage across them, or put them in line with the circuit to check the current flowing in it.
You can also put the probes across components and check the resistance values using the resistance mode (Ω).
The one in the picture doesn't do capacitance, but it does allow you to check the resistance drop across both type of transistor (and other diodes, for that matter).

Very useful for checking problems with electrical bits - on the bike and in the house!

For some reason all me multimeters keep disappearing.
Been meaning to get another one, but they haven't been on offer for a while.

While this probably aren't the most accurate or offer amazing features, but they have done the job fine for anything I've needed to use them for.

Mine used to work but now it just says hv7 on the screen

Any one got the instructions and knows what this means ? ( I think its a low battery code , I would check the voltage of the battery with a multimeter but ,er, it is my multimeter doh !)

Jut took it apart there is a blown fuse in side , wonder if thats the problem ?

And the battery is just a normal 9V square one.

I'm a bit of a cheapskate, but I wouldn't buy a multimeter that didn't have an audible continuity test. This is the function I use the most, and it makes life a lot easier to not have to keep glancing down at the meter.

Buy one get one free makes them ridiculously cheap, but I wouldn't even think twice about spending a tenner on the one with audible continuity.
