Right, background info.....

I live next door to a guy who has a friend who rides a Corona coloured GSXR600 (SRAD) on i think a 2000 plate, but may be a 99 plate.

I have only lived at this house for about 4 months and have seen the guy (Who rides the GSXR) and spoke to him around 3-4 times during that period.

First inpressions are he is a chavy belittling twat with a drug habbit. On a whole he seems like he is not a nice person, but who am I to judge? He aint done nothing to me so I aint gonna be rude / knobish to him. Live and let live etc.

Right, 2 weeks ago he comes walking up my back garden letting himself in and knocking the back door.....
That pissed me off, as he knows where the front door is.

He then asked me to lend him my motorbike helmet for an hour to take his mate to the job centre.

I only ever lend my kit to close mates, of whom I know and trust. Not someone i am rightly or wrongly so, suspicious about.

He then asked why i would not lend it him. Told him not a cat in hells chance as its my kit and blooming expensive. I have 3 lids, 1 nice and 2 old but in good con.

My auntie was standing next to me and in her caring considerate way (She is just damn too nice) said you can borrow mine for an hour but I need it back. Much to my dismay but it aint my kit so nowt I can do.

Anyway, he trundles off all smug, happy he has a spare lid and says he will return it in an hour.

It has now been 2 weeks and he has not returned to see his mate and I have asked his mate a couple of times if he has heard from him and nothing.

Assuming this knob aint dead, he has nicked my aunties helmet and imo fully knowing what he is doing. (More the fool my auntie but none the less, the guy is still a top class tosser)

I think his name is Chris.

So if you are gracing these boards now "Chris" you best not turn up at your mates house while I am about without that helmet and an apology............

Sorry for the rant folks, but do me a favour dont be as stupid as my aunt and lend kit to people unless trusted!

Rant over.

P.s feel free to have a chav bashing session in this thread!

Steve.

I wouldn't ever lend my lid to anyone. Not even close mates.

Too much chance they'll drop it and damage it, how would you know?

Exactly TBJ,

Not only that they may damage it, but it is bought for your head size / shape so unless they are your twin and have the same head as you the chances are it will be the wrong fit and not save you properly if called upon.

I lent a lid to a mate of mine for someone else once.

Got to the point where I had to threaten to tax the fella's bike before I got it back.

Go nick his wing mirrors then tell him you've lent them to a mate of yours.

Thumbs Up

Well lets just say the next time I see his bike parked outside (If at all ever) I will be chaining his front and back tyres up with 2 bloody thick bike chains and waiting for him to return to so he can give me the helmet / give me an explanation / chin him / kick his bike over. (Delete appropriate)

I dont mind lending kit to friends, helmets, bikes etc we swap bits and bobs quite often and I trust every single one of them implicidly.
We have a rule, bin it and its yours......

None of the basic, courtious rules were discussed / followed by this chav runt.

Lent one of my older lids to a mate, but still a bloody expensive one. BMW flip face one.

The ONLY reason i lent it to him was because i was there all the time as well, so i was sure he wouldn't drop it or have an off.

yeah, never lend any kit out, I don't, same as never letting anyone ride my bike, it's mine.

It's alright being shady, at the end of the day, the person borrowing the helmet is bound to have a different shaped head completely, meaning it will re-mould the helmet and disproportion it come the next use. Good luck on it's return, and kick his teeth for me.

yeah but if someone drops it or knocks it, the foam inside the lid has done its job and won't protect anyone in the future.

Therefore if you lend it to someone and they crash and injure their head because the lid was buggered, you'd feel awful.

Exactly, so the helmet is only good for legal purposes - it might not actually offer any protection.

Still, fair enough as long as you tell them that's the case.

I don't believe they are as useless are you say, Mine dropped from mirror height Embarassed onto road, I read somewhere that you should replace it if you have had a crash as with your head in the helmet there is a lot more force in it and that will cause damage. I reckon helmet companys don't mind spreading this myth, I think they are more durable than they are made out to me.

I don't see how the foam padding can be damaged in a drop, as it doesn't have your fat head deforming it against the hard outer casing.

Significant damage to the outer casing should be visible, so if I drop my helmets I don't worry too much. If it should be irrevocably damaged by falling (empty) a couple of feet to the ground, then there is sod all chance that it would've saved me in a high speed spill with my head in it.
