it was good. last time the show off bike rider was on a gsxr1000 and was backing it into corners

this time, to show off, leon did a little wheelie shortly after overtaking tiff

they also did a rolling start, and let take tiff take the lead initially, to give the car more of a chance

from a standing start the car would have been left for dust

I have to say it was a shame it was a rolling start. The bike was clearly holding the car up in the tighter corners though, so it would have been a more interesting test it they had been on the track at seperate times.

Crying shame they spent 5mins showing off the glorious details of the car, and all the Ducati had was a 1 second reference to it being Ducati's new flagship model.

It was great to see Leon giving it some beans and fair play to 5th Gear as it was a nicely filmed piece.

Yeah, it looked like Tiff bottled it on some of the corners when he got really close under braking, which is understandable. Would be hard explaining that one to the insurers... Erm yeah, was racing a bike, and he kinda bounced off the bonnett

Was surprised that the car could stop faster. I always thought a bike could stop quicker than a car?

I guess 4 wheels v 2 makes sense for grip, but a car weighs a lot more than the bike?

I thought the ones where the bike and car were separate were better.

A car also has a lot bigger contact patch per tyre, especially something like that.

However, the issue with a bike is that it can only decelerate at around 1G - more than that and the rear will lift up.

A well ridden bike will stop better than most cars, however as performance increases cars gain the advantage. An F1 car can stop ridiculously quickly thanks to the grip it gets from it's massive tyres and downforce.

I didn't get the impression Haslam was pushing it through the corners. Neutral

Snip BUT Haslam lifted the rear wheel , supposedly the best braking performance is just before the rear end lifts off ? ,

and he should have used something IL4 instead, even faster acceleration,

Only Italian inline 4 that springs to mind is made by Bimota, doubt they would have used one for the show.

Does it have to be Italian? , I was thinking ZX10R (the old one not the newer alledged softer version), or GSXR1000,

Pretty much, its a new lighter/more powerfull italian sports car so they wanted to test it against a newer italian sportsbike since last time it was a 999 v Gallardo.

Well the idea was that it was an Italian bike versus an Italian car. So yeah... it kinda does.

Itchy, yes but it only lifted as he came to a stop.

I believe previously they have done a GSXR1000 vs a Radical (I think) of some kind.
The car did just win, but they were very fair and explained the car was probably even less useful for going to the shops than the bike, or something.

And yet again done from a rolling start wasn't it, as was the fireblade(but that won)

An 'out lap' means the bike can get some heat into the tyres, which it may not have a chance to do from a standing start.

Think as far as 'real world' comparisons go, it's fairer that way generally.

IMO, it was the usual bike versus car challenge, Leon slaughtered Tiff, but it was made to look like he only just managed it. What else would a car show do. Oh, and if it was 0-100-0 instead of 100-0, the bike would've pissed it also...... Wink

YAWN YAWN YAWN.

Good morning biking bretheren.

Bikes are not better than cars, they are different.

Simply put, a road stock bike will never outgun a super car because bike manufacturers are pissing about selling us regurgitate crap with new plastic. They tweak the fuelling and piss on doing stuff we can do ourselves with a dyno - re-market it and sell it to us again.

You can't live at 200mph.
