Got given a 1986 GPZ600r from someone I used to work with. It's been sat under cover, unused for the last 7 years so needs a bit of tlc. The tank was full of old petrol when I got it so i drained that then stripped and cleaned the carbs up. Got it all back together now and the carbs are filling with petrol fine but thats as far as its going...

Turns over and sparks fine but is not sucking the petrol through. the bike was being used daily before it was stored so did start!

Stuck a bit of petrol down the plug holes and it fired off that so its definitely a fuel starvation problem...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

If you open the drains on the float bowls does anything come out? If not then I would say the floats are sticking closed. If fuel is coming out then the pilot jets are probably blocked with the hardened remains of petrol.

All the best

Keith

Hi Keith, yeah checked all the float bowls and all had petrol in them. One of the floats was stuck when i got it, thats why I had them apart.

Looks like I'll be pulling the pilot jets out then!

Cheers for the reply.

i would say its blocked jets in a very bad way, like all 4 of them are blocked.
