Need a new chain and sprockets.

My 97 Cbr600 F-V is in need of a new chain and sprocket set. Being new to the big bike scene I'm not sure what make to go for. What i am thinking of is dropping a tooth on the front for a little more oomph at the expense of top speed. (130 is scary enough thanks!)

Any reccomendations will be appreciated.

dont know about different sizes on your bike but i got a tsubaki X ring and front and rear renthal sprockets from sportsbikeshop.co.uk https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_cat/22 for a lot less than the garage was going to get it for me bout £35 cheaper and its free postage too

X rings are deffinately better in my opinion, keeps the crud out and lube in which is a bonus, and the rear sprocket is anodised so wont wear out as quickly .... well i hope not anyway

don't but a aluminium rear sprocket!!!
i got less than 1000miles out of my last one (im a savage rider)
but they wear just too quickly and only save you a few grams of weight,(im not sure if this magic anodising caper strengthens them or not)
defently go with a x or o ring chain

you destroyed a rear sprocket in under 1000miles? mines still going strong, its a renthal ally it came as a set so i used it.

yep i know, what are you riding though and how do you ride it?
im really tough on bikes,
my little bro managed to chew through the ali one on the gs500 in 2000 miles.
they probably are fine in normal circumstances, but ill stick with nice hard steel from now on

thrash mine 90% of the time with roll on wheelies, its a fzr400 so the power sits round 40-50bhp so its not that bad compaired to your 80-100bhp machines, if your thrashing a ali sprocket like that, what else are you damaging?

nothing the chain takes a beating, but the ali sprocket is the weakest link,
its a heavy bike with a heavy lad on board

i get my run of the mill chain and sprockets from M&P. Usually around £60 all in and not had a problems with them so far....

cold hard steel. not fancy but very functional. I go for the basic 'heavy duty' kit and have always got a DID O ring chain and 'JT' sprockets.
