Just got back from work, put the bike away and noticed a peculiar smell. Looked around and saw that when I rev it she starts to plume out grey smoke. Is this rich? Not really up on sorting out these particular problems so any tips to save taking it to the garage?

She's a high miler so would expect a bit of smoke but not this dense or as smelly! smells fuelly but it's always been heavy on fuel (120/tank mix of urban and straight with plenty of oomph)

grey smoke?

Black smoke is generally rich and blue smoke means oil

Try pulling the plugs and having a look. Rich plugs are black and sooty looking.

You could have worn bits in the carbs-float valves are the usual suspects.

If its oil, you could be looking at a failing headgasket, worn bores or worn valveguides.

Join the FJ owners club, great guys, great prices and if you need engine work done, very cheap.

Thats pretty normal for an FJ. I've had 3, 1 new and 2 2nd hand and I wouldn't go over 120 before filling up. (especially with the useless electric reserve they have Rolling Eyes )
