as expressed in another thread, the bike has been garaged for 2 years Embarassed

Both front and rear still have good tread and still 'feel' soft.

I'm not a knee down junkie, but enjoy a spirited ride every now and again Smile

Is it worth replacing the tyres?

It is the age old question - how much do you value your safety?

Personally, if the tyre's are correctly inflated and showing no signs of cracking then I would use them but building up slowly to a full hoon.

Regular inspections. Thumbs Up

I asked the same question of a guy who sells tyres, he says no problem, as long as they're not cracked or perished treat them as new tyres and run them in for 100 miles or so, he says he has tyres lying on his shelf for 2 or 3 years sometimes and he's happy enough to use them.

when i bought the fzr, the tyres where hard and cracked, then they went soft as anything then they died, it all depends on the quality of the tyre and what condition its in.

I would be tempted to leave them on if they look in good condition. Test them out slowly, there might be some vibration from them if they have flat-spotted, but if they feel okay then I'm sure they will be fine.

Another thing to consider is that if the bike's been sitting in one place for the whole time, the portion of the tyre touching the floor may have been flattened off a bit. However, I've never found this to be a problem with bike's that have been sitting around.

it depends on how the bike was stored like G said. I bought a 750 SRAD beginning of the year that had been stood for 3 years. It was kept in doors and held off the cold floor by means of a scaffold plank..the tires were spot on. Hpowever..and I know its a lot longer but a friend of mine just bought an FZR400 thats been stood for 8 years indoors but the back tire has cracked badly in the middle where it was in contact with the concrete floor.

Bottom line is if its been out of the sun then 2 years shouldn't bother the tyre at all

Ah cheers for that!! Being a jap import it only has the model numbers on the engine..1WG..and the frame number is also !wg..So kinda guessed it must have been a 1wg. the air pipes from the fairing are above the headlights and it has the older twin round lights!! Apart from needing the carbs well stripped and cleaned it ran great(got a spare set with it anyhow) I'm off to look at the link now!

Cheers

thats same model as mine the 3en1, great bike, make sure the shock is good and the fork oil is changed, i'd also check the fork springs to see if they need replacing from sag. just had that prob with the shocker, the forks just had new oil and seal and work a treat. carb set up is air fuel mixture 2 and half turns out, and i put the needle a notch up to lean the mixture out as it was drinking petrol, hope that helps Very Happy deffo download the manuals both of them, ones for the yank models and the 3tj they both help alot Thumbs Up another great site here 400 grey bike thats a great forum, evil chicken knows everything lol! Thumbs Up
