They've thought of it all, theres even a gift pack..  Tbh whats the point when you can buy some cheap torches.. wont be paying over the odds for a battery and a piece of plastic.

Excuse me, but this is NOT spam!
I run a motorcycle towing service here in the San Diego area, and I use these myself when I am loading a bike on a dark mountain road where people may come around a blind curve. They can be placed on a guard rail post or the rail itself, or anywhere an approaching driver will see them and SLOW DOWN! They are great because the rectangular battery will not roll away on a sloped grade, they will not risk setting a brushfire like flares, they will burn brightly one HECK of a lot longer than a 30-minute flare, and quite frankly, I bought mine TWO YEARS ago and they are still functioning on the original batteries! They also allow you to leave your bike somewhere without running your battery down by leaving the taillight on, such as when you run out of gas.
Just because I bring your attention to something that may be useful to the motorcycling community does NOT mean it is *spam*. I really resent someone labeling my post as spam!
I have spent the last ten years running a dedicated motorcycle towing service, and my LIFE is all about helping motorcyclists ride safer, have more fun and live longer. I have published two newsletters to date, full of useful information and distributed some 5,000 copies around San Diego county, all at my own expense.
I do not SELL these lights, or receive ANY commission for mentioning them! The manufacturer doesn't even know who I am. Yes, they are a bit pricey, but their compact size and long life make them ideal for someone who wants to tuck them away and forget about them until they suddenly discover two or three years alter that they need them.
I DO NOT POST SPAM!!!

I understand that their prices are ... OBSCENE, to say the least! but please don't make a statement like that.
You really DON'T know what it cost to set up the manufacturing of these units. Sure, they may be able to pump them out NOW for fifty cents each, but if you don't run a business, you don't know about the overhead costs that must be incorporated INTO the price of each unit.
I am NOT defending their admittedly OBSCENE price on these units. I am only pointing out that there are costs you don't see when you hold one in your hand, such as the insurance they must carry so that when they are sued by some inattentive parent who allowed their child to swallow one, requiring surgery, they are covered, or the cost of tooling up a mold for the injectioin molding machine.
You seem to be bothered by their price. Let me ask you this; do you REALLY believe it costs SONY $2,000.00 to make those laptops, or it REALLY costs $300.00 to make that tire you bought for your bike? LOL!? When you pay $300.00 for a tire, you are paying about twenty bucks for the tire, and $280.00 into the "Someone will eventually find a reason to sue the company" fund!
The lights have a circuit board on them, and there are flashing models and Hi-Lo illuminating models ... okay, so perhaps they spend one dollar each to make them! The point is, they had to pay a ton of money to create the mold for the plastic body ... and patent it ... and jump through all of the government hoops just to SELL it ... and they need to recover their costs.
I spoke with the owner of the company about three years ago. He set up a table at the Del Mar Gun Show and displayed about ten of these little lights. They didn't even have a name for them back then! He knew that they were unique enough, that people would find uses for them. I was the person who suggested that he sell them in a six-pack to be used as flares. He has since developed the name, a website and several variations of the original RED two-LED units I saw and purchased years ago.

I don't understand the spam ratings, either. You didn't repeatedly post; nor did you post a URL and vanish, never to be seen again. You posted something useful, albeit with a very hefty price-tag, and stuck around. It did come across as a bit of an advert, but I couldn't care less, if the product is interesting.
edit: and I would say Karma means fuck all; but with a low rating, all his future posts will be hidden from view. Wonderful. |

I agree that the price is OBSCENE, but then, how many people rushed out to pay $600.00us for a new iPhone a few weeks ago? LOL! The price of an item is NOT reflective of what it costs to MAKE the item. Examples: The "Pet Rock", The iPod, and bottled water! Quite frankly, I believe the Pak-Lite should sell for about $1.95.
I am a bit surprised to see the fang-bearing nature of the posters here. How quickly a group of supposed friends can turn into an angry mob. God forbid I should tell anyone about what motor oil I use! They might BAN me!

These are nice but consider this:
At least here in California,
1. GREEN glow sticks are not legal to use as road hazard warning signals.
2. These sticks are good for ONE use, and last about three hours before they become dim and worthless. Pak-Lites can be left in position, on HIGH power and will glow brightly for EIGHT DAYS.
3. These cannot flash like the pak-lites can, and their light cannot be pointed in one direction; directly at the eyes of drivers in approaching cars.
4. They take up more room than a 9-volt battery
5. if you accidentally bend one while sitting on a seat or packing something into a saddlebag, you just wasted it.
6. When the battery runs out, you can swap the light to a new battery. When the stick runs out, you have trash.
7. The glow sticks are round, and can be blown to the side of the road by passing cars.
8. In California at least, people frown on "one-use disposables". California is all about recycling!
9. at the Home improvement stores, these glow sticks are usually about $2.00 which means each one will cost you about 66 cents per hour for the light, while the Pak-Lite will give you EIGHT DAYS of light on high, or 30 days on low for about 1/2 the price, and then you can change the battery.
10. The glow sticks have a limited shelf life, after which they will not work as the chemicals inside crystallize.

What is your point, Den Monkey? I spoke with the owner on the day I purchased them at the gun show. At that time, when he mentioned that it was just something he created and didn't know exactly how to market them, I suggested that they be sold in a set as road flares because I run a towing service and have a great interest in anything that will prevent someone from hitting me while I am loading a disabled vehicle.
I ALSO suggested that he make a white version so a biker can have a roadside trouble light at night. I ALSO suggested that he make one with a magnetic switch to use as a light inside rural mailboxes. I ALSO told him that they would be really handy as a rear red light when I am moving something long, like the 16-foot Christmas trees I deliver every December for a local tree lot. Rather than run a light with a cord, I just zip-tie one of the red lights to the tip of the tree, and the cars behind me don't rear-end the tree which hangs four feet off the back of my truck.
I ALSO gave him a lot of other FREE suggestions. I am an idea man! Virtually ALL of my contact with the owner occurred over less than 15 minutes, about 3 years ago.
I must assume by your post that you are trying to show that I am somehow associated with the company. I must tell you that I don't know the owner's name, and I don't even know where the company is located! I wouldn't recognize him if I passed him on the street!
You know what ... I also have a CANON 20D camera. I think it is FANTASTIC! If I post a photo of it, and a link to get more information about it, are you going to accuse me of working for CANON? I print my newsletters on Samsung CLP-500 series color laser printers! Do I work for Samsung?!? I eat LOTS of M&Ms !!! Do I now work for the MARS Candy company?!? LOL!
Tell you what ... Call them up at Pak-Lite and demand to speak with the owner. Ask him (or her?) who Joe Jones is. Don't jog his memory by hinting at the conversation he had with the tow truck owner at his initial display at the gun show so long ago. just drop my name, "Joe Jones" and see if he can tell you all about me!
I'll send you a dollar if he or she can answer the question! In fact, if he DOES know who I am, tell him to start sending me commission checks for using all of my great ideas!!! I'd like to think that he actually listened to me that day, so many years ago! LOL!

Ooo rant time.
Wow you act as if we don't have technology in the UK. It's a battery with L.E.D's it something a 12 year old in the UK would make for a D.T project 
I mean sh!t I live in the USA at the moment in NC (please some one help me) and even lived in Cali for a months, fantastic state and I miss it so the people were great.
But don't fall under the typical yank bracket please.
I bet your shocked to find that we have pc's in the UK ain't you  . One more hick asks that question and I will shoot them.
Also the UK is not as big as the US so we are usually never stuck that far from a town.
And if you lot road with some friends every now and then it wouldn't be so bad. Most American bikers are posers straight up I'm yet to find any one who can keep up with me or even ride the twisties, to them if they can drag their knee they are happy. But actually hold a line through a corner they can't. And don't get me started on the cruiser riders.
Tell me why are most southern Americans scared of me?
Where is this thing called "southern hospitality" ?
I even had an airport rent - a - cop down here look at me while saying my visa was a fake and say "you think you are better than us." Well he said it not me.
Ooo and another thing. Our "cell phones" are about 6 years ahead of the American market and we can get signal in most areas.
I fvcking hate verizon your billing is pathetic and I hate these crappy phones and bring me a k800i you bitches. Man this country and phones are there to fvck you over. I mean why can I not have a 1 year contract with a new phone half way through with insurance and unlimited time.
Oh no its got to be over 80 dollars a month for a 2 year contract which I am lucky to use. And if I want to cancel over 300 to pay off the rest of the contract. And then when you ask for a deal on a new phone they say they can't offer one. Twats.
God damnit I hate this place.

Oh lets try and add some reason to all this; firstly if you join an internet forum and the first thing you do is try and sell something you're gonna get hammered. You mentioned friendly and we are friendly, so I would suggest that as with the "real world" you get to know people before shoving something down their throats. Secondly if you do want to sell something research your market, most of the people on the forum (a chat forum not a sales forum I hasten to add) are from Europe the UK in particular. In the EU we use warning triangles to advise other motorists of hazards. Anything else placed on the road is regarded as a hazard in itself. If I drove round a bend and one of those went through my $300 tyre I'd be well pissed off. But as I live in the UK it'd have only cost £35 and would have been made in the Czech Republic our very own Mexico...
If you do want to raise the profile of something you think is useful post a link and say "hey guys what do you think of this, any good?" Then you won't get hit with spam ratings because people will give you a frank opinion of the product, rather than shooting the messenger. You could also post in "found on the net" or even the "for sale" forums but then that once again would take time and research. If all those lovely pictures aren't a sales pitch then I don't know what is, ergo spam!
And finally I do not buy consumer goods in same gluttonous way the USA appears to. I do not own an iPod would never consider buying an iPhone and $300 for a tyre? I'd expect all 4 for that fitted and balanced including VAT (purchase tax).
