Hi again

I'm trying to compile an online dictionary of biking terms, and I'm running out.

They are all here https://motorcycledirectory.co.uk/dictionary.php I would really appreciate it if you could add the ones that I've left out. You can either click on the link to add a term, or post up a reply here of anything I've forgotten. I'll add it up as soon as I can.

I appreciate any input you can give

Thanks

Matt

Quote:
High side This describes a crash where the bike enters a rear wheel skid (caused by too much brake) and the brake is released, causing sudden grip and throwing the rider high off the motorcycle.

Think this would fit better.
Quote:

What’s a high-side/low-side?

A high-side is where the bike suddenly regains traction after beginning to skid and spits the rider over the bike. The rider typically exits on the high side of the bike—the side not closest to the ground. A low-side is simply where the bike loses traction and skids into the ground with the rider remaining on the low side of the bike—the side closest to the ground.

Yep, noticed that. A kick start is one of them frustrating leg-aching methods of starting on crossers & old bikes, whereas a bump start is pushing the bike like fuck in gear and jumping on it in a futile attempt to start it when ya battery is shagged.

And I'm sure the BCF fans of drum brakes ( Laughing ) would take issue with that description!

You missed:

Armour - pads hard or soft placed at exposed bones of the body hips , knees , shoulders , elbows , spine designed to absorb some of the energy of impact.

Ambushing, ie riding a totally unsuitable and or crappy piece of machinery , say my NTV and going after shiny new sports bikes in the twisties and being able to match them corner for corner.

Bike bitch - a person who only ever goes pillion (and can't ride themselves).

Cages - cars etc

Clan, - a bunch of bikers that end up being very very very close friends effectively extended family

Couriers / Dispatch riders (make your own description)

Courier racing - the sudden unpredictable urge to follow and or out filter and outride couriers who are expert at it.

Destroyed (to be) when somebody gives you some serious 0wnage or you give some serious 0wnage to somebody else particularly embarrassing when you are on an older crapper bike (see ambushing)

Downpipes , the pipes leading out of the cylinder heads down to the end can/exahust

H Hit n Run, an all too familiar occurance on the roads

Hort 4 - producer usually given by arsey cops

Posers - people who can't ride for shit but always have the newest up to date gear and bikes, often accompanied by <200 miles between MOTs

'Peds Mopeds

S SMIDSY - self explanitory

O - Organ donors , people who ride inappropriately to the conditions of the road at the time

O - Old bike bore, the old man in the corner of the pub who spots your helmet and sees this as a signal to corner you mercilessly and preventing you from escaping while he regales you with his tales of his biking youth, often accompanied by the words Norton, when I was a lad etc, a person which many riders are probably destined to become, can escalate to being taken home being fed cold fray bentos pies and being buggered relentlessly by said person.

R - round about bash , where people go to a round about to go round and round to destroy their chicken strips, and go KD

Road rash - the effect of an off and not wearing approapriate gear

R - Rat bike , See survival/rat bikes , bikes which are mechanically in good condition (usually) but look absolutely awful to many people

Scotoiler - automatic chain lube system

Single swinger , when the rear wheel or sometimes the front is supported only on one side

T - touring to go travel on bike

N - NABD (self explanitory)

Lock up - to lock your front or rear brake , depending on skill level this may result in an off

Loobman same as scot oiler but semi manual

In the definition of a burnout you've put "This describes the act of burning the rear wheel" - should be rear tyre.

Again on the definition of chicken strips. Also It's not necessarily about knee downs but lean angle.

Yeah, they're idiots. Everyone knows Alpenstar gear is made of muesli and various fruits. It offers no protection at all.
